The ONN team is in the final stages of confirming all the conference plenaries, breakout sessions and speakers but we couldn't wait to share these updates with you.
1. BIPOC Networking Space
An informal space for Black, Indigenous, and racialized people to network, ignite collaboration, share practices of wellness and care and engage in dialogue about decent work movement building. The gathering will be participant-driven and has been created intentionally for nonprofit workers who may not get the opportunity to connect otherwise.
2. Plenary: Work In Progress Unpacking White Supremacy in nonprofit organizations
Join us for a powerful session in which leaders within the nonprofit sector will engage in a discussion about how pervasive white supremacy is within our sector. The panelists will explore all dimensions of organizational culture and share lessons learned, practices of implementation and challenges that have arisen while doing this work.
Related Workshop Theory Into Practice: Unpacking White Supremacy in the nonprofit organizations
Through an interactive workshop, we invite nonprofit workers to explore how the practices of white supremacy show up in the following structures: senior leadership, board structures, staffing practices and volunteer engagement. No matter where organizations are on their journey, this session hopes to create space for critical questions and information sharing on best practices. We will also explore practical tools and methods of organizational culture change as they apply to challenging white supremacy.
3. Closing Plenary: Randell Adjei
We are very excited to share that Randell Adjei is going to be our closing plenary speaker at #NonprofitDriven this year. Randell is Ontario's first poet laureate and founder of R.I.S.E. Edutainment. We can’t wait to hear him speak!
What's back this year?
Reimagining Governance (RG) - Erin Kang & Linda Mollenhauer
When nonprofits ask brave questions about governance, the opportunity for change increases. Governance does not have to be confined to the boardroom.
So, what is RG? Reimagining Governance is a collaborative initiative between ONN and Ignite NPS. The goal is to disrupt how governance is talked about and executed in nonprofit organizations. The initiative is creating new pathways for organizations to design their governance based on their unique circumstances.
In the last year, learning labs have been launched with nine nonprofits to experiment with a “transformative design process” that aims to do just that. One board participant described it as an “opportunity to have more intentional conversations about our governance, looking at it through a more expansive lens.”
Join Erin and Linda to learn more about the RG project, gain insights from the labs and how your nonprofit can join the movement to disrupt the status quo.
