RESULTS OF THE 2021 'YOUNG MATHEMATICAL STORY AUTHOR (YMSA)' COMPETITION
626 students from 62 schools and homeschooling sites across 12 countries around the world participated in our YMSA competition this year, making it our biggest competition so far!

The YMSA competition is the world's first annual international competition set up back in 2019 to encourage young mathematics learners (8-15 years old) from around the world to embed their mathematics learning in a meaningful and engaging context through creating their own mathematical story picture book. This competition is organised by MathsThroughStories.org

We are super excited to share with you the results of both the Stuart J. Murphy Award (the 8-11 years old category) and the Cindy Neuschwander Award (the 12-15 years old category). You can see the results by clicking on the relevant photos below.

Many congratulations to the authors of the winning, shortlisted and longlisted entries! The winner in each category receives £100 and their school another £100. For the third year in a row, the Awards are generously funded by HarperCollins and Charlesbridge.

We are also pleased to see that our competition is very inclusive with with 389 females students, 235 male students and two self-identified gender-fluid students participated in the competition this year.

You can also read the winning and shortlisted entries of our competition from the previous years here: 2019 and 2020

A new series of mathematical stories in Italian

Authored by Germano Pettarin (Universities of Venice and Padua, Italy), this blog post is designed to introduce you to a new series of mathematical stories in Italian language. While many of us might not be fortunate enough to be able to read and understand Italian, it can still be interesting to learn about the world of mathematical stories outside the English-speaking world.
