Consultation on expanding access to Naloxone
The Department for Health and Social Care has opened a consultation to assess the viability of proposals to widen access to naloxone by expanding the list of services and individuals that can give it out without a prescription or other written instruction. The consultation closes on the 28th September.

Consultation on waiting times for mental health services.
NHS England has launched a consultation on proposals for five new waiting time guarantees for access to mental health services. They could ensure that patients requiring urgent care will be seen by community mental health crisis teams within 24 hours of referral, with the most urgent getting help within four hours. The consultation closes on the 1st September.

Police awarded £11.3m for programmes to prevent domestic abuse crimes
The Home Office has awarded £11.3 million to 25 Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) in England and Wales, to go towards domestic abuse intervention programmes. The programmes focus on interventions encouraging behaviour change to help stop perpetrators from committing domestic abuse, with the ultimate aim of preventing further crimes from being committed.

Regional reducing reoffending plans
Following the unification of the Probation Service in June, the 12 new Regional Probation Directors (RPDs) have published their Regional Reducing Reoffending Plans. The plans set out how they will work with partner organisations to cut crime and make communities safer by reducing reoffending.

Clinks has published a new evidence review providing an in-depth look at the issue of illicit drug use among people in contact with the criminal justice system. The review covers a range of issues including trends in illicit drug use, patterns of opiate and cocaine use and a summary of evidence of ‘what works’ with this client group.

Prevent and relieve homelessness toolkit
The Commitment to Collaborate (C2C) to Prevent and Relieve Homelessness Toolkit has been developed to support organisations and partnerships to think about what actions they can take to prevent and relieve homelessness. The toolkit gives you a step by step approach to identifying what the issues and gaps are for the people you work with and how you can help to tackle those issues and gaps.

The Kerslake Commission: interim report on homelessness and rough sleeping
The Kerslake Commission has published its first interim report looking at the lessons from Everyone-In, the public health emergency response to rough sleeping, and how the significant progress made can be embedded in the long term.

Peer mentoring in the criminal justice system
Clinks have published a new evidence review providing an in-depth look at peer mentoring in the criminal justice system. Peer mentoring involves community members, often with lived experience of criminal justice, working or volunteering in helping relationships and is now integral to the delivery of most services in the criminal justice system.

Dame Carol Black funding recommendations
Collective Voice has published a note clarifying the recommendations for funding set out in part 2 of Dame Carol Black’s Independent Review of Drugs. The total additional spending recommended totals £1.78 billion over 5 years for treatment and recovery.

Preventing homelessness amongst former prisoners in England and Wales
A new review of evidence has been published investigating opportunities arising from the creation of the new national probation service in June 2021 to improve housing outcomes for prison leavers. The report focuses on the needs of single prison leavers who are, or who are at risk of, rough sleeping or living in unstable accommodation in England and Wales.

Winter provision for people sleeping rough
Homeless Link are hosting a free webinar on the 1st September hearing from a range of speakers about severe weather & extended winter provision, the planning and funding arrangements and what provision might look like for this coming winter and beyond. It will provide an overview of the latest covid-19 guidance and operating principles for Night Shelters and discuss funding streams and alternative models finishing with a Q&A session.
