Dear Friends,

This newsletter contains exciting news about our Spring 2021 grantees.  I am sure you will be as excited as I am about the potential of the 8 successful grants to create a substantial impact on the Kingdom.  KBF received 14 applications totaling almost $200,000 in requests.  The Grant Committee had $58,000 available for funding. As a result, the Committee was not able to fully fund many worthy requests.

The Donor Development Committee of the KBF is moving forward to reach out to many members and friends of SBPC to invite them to become donors by naming the Foundation in their trusts or as beneficiaries of their life insurance or retirement funds. As the Foundation is successful in acquiring more donors, we will be able to allocate more funds to be available for granting.  Our vision is to have much more money available to fund his Kingdom each year.

As a friend of KBF, and an investor in the Kingdom, we are asking you to invite your friends and neighbors to become donors as well.  If you have someone in mind who has the same passion for God’s Kingdom, please let us know.  We would like to visit with them about the possibility of considering KBF in their estate planning.  Please call Mike Stansbury, Director of Donor Development at (760) 822-4041 to discuss how to make that invitation.

For His Glory,

Steven Goe, Chair, Board of Directors, Kingdom Builder Foundation

Family History Reflection

Mike Stansbury and his wife Nancy have changed their will and trust to include Kingdom Builder Foundation as a benefactor for when they pass on. They said "we love building forever for Christ by supporting ministries associated with SBPC."

Their thoughts then turned to family history and all the photos, documents, letters, souvenirs and other items they had. They thought "what better way than to put together a family history that would be satisfying to us and let us tell our children and grandchildren about their family." It would be a legacy in addition to the Kingdom Builder Foundation.

Mike and Nancy share some helpful tips on how to do this:

1. Write down all the things you have done, places you have gone and people you know. Separate your life's memories into chapters or stages. You can also add photos, diaries and souvenirs to enhance it.

2. Sprinkle some current events into your family history. That will make it easier to relate to as it is set against the context of the time.

3. Write down your personal reflections of what you want to be remembered for and what are some of your biggest regrets. You could include things like awards, movies, jokes, recipes, quotes and music.

Finally, have fun. As you write and remember the past and put it all together, it allows you to look at a roadmap of your life's phases. This will provide a heartfelt legacy for your children and grandchildren to treasure.

Interview with a Grant Recipient:
PEFA Matumani Rehabilitation Centre

PEFA MATUMANI REHABILITATION CENTRE is an institution that deals with the disabled children and youths (physical and mentally) and disadvantaged children to reach their God given potential in order to be responsible members of the community. They are dedicated to caring for the needs of the disabled, orphaned and destitute children and young people helping them reach their full potential in life and giving hope for a good future. They operate under One Collective who is the donor helping to run the institution and cater fo the needs of the children's medical and educational needs.

How did you hear about KBF?
Through a former member of KBF who once travelled to our institution and helped our children.

How have you used the funds in the past?
First our dormitories were leaking due to old iron sheets. Thanks to KBF, we have roofs that are in good condition now and it no longer worries us when it rains. We also have laboratory equipment that has made testing and diagnosis easier for our children when they're sick. Also, we now have a vehicle that has helped us during emergencies when children fall sick. We are able to take children out since the children do not have parents or relatives to go home to therefore they belong to the institution. Not forgetting ramping that has helped the institution look beautiful as well as providing pavements for children to walk on and ramps for the wheelchairs, hence lowering the cost of wear and tear of the wheelchairs and reduced cost of maintanance. All this has made us very happy.

Any advice for a person wanting to apply the grant?
KBF is a christian entity focused on building the kingdom of God. They serve the purpose of helping the needy and vulnerable in society. Anybody willing to apply for the grant should do so confidently.

KBF Grantees Paul and Pat Stock

Paul and Pat Stock work with the Church of Pakistan to help reduce spiritual and material poverty among some marginalized communities in Sindh and Sindhis abroad. They encourage the local church in integral outreach, sharing, training, adult education, basic health, developing appropriate customs, starting self-help groups, as well as developing outreach, health and education resources.

BACKGROUND

Paul was born and raised in Pakistan, the son of Presbyterian workers; Pat grew up in Virginia and North Carolina and became involved in relief and refugee work after finishing university. Paul and Pat joined Interserve in 1991, and have raised their four children in Pakistan.

“I first came to SBPC as a child because my parents, Fred and Margie Stock, were supported by the church. Then, when I went to Pakistan as a single missionary in 1987, SBPC was one of the 3 churches that supported me. I remember sitting with the Missions Committee members and sharing what I hoped to do in Pakistan. They were so caring and encouraging. I didn’t feel like I was going alone. Our relationship has continued until now and we are so thankful for the partnership of SBPC.” -Paul Stock
