When Anne Akiko Meyers asked Mexican composer Arturo Márquez to write her a violin concerto, he already had one in his heart, inspired by his father Arturo Márquez Sr., a mariachi violinist. She'll premiere the piece "Fandango" on Aug. 24 with the LA Phil and Gustavo Dudamel, at the Hollywood Bowl.
The 2020 Shanghai Isaac Stern International Violin Competition - postponed for a year due to the pandemic - has named 13 semi-finalists, after virtual quarter-final round that ended on Monday.
