What a week for hay! A sudden change in weather forecast meant that Tom had to race the rain and bale the not-yet-dry hay he had cut. The bales were opened up in the barn and spread to dry out, then re-baled. Did you ever realize how complicated haying could be? What a delicate dance with the weather! Thankfully, most things can be grown and harvested rain or shine so there will be plenty to eat this week!

Here's what you can expect to see at the farm stand this week: 
Pick your own flowers, sweet Spanish onions, broccoli, cabbage, beets, zucchini/summer squash, carrots, lettuce, chard, kale, scallions, radishes, cucumbers and pickling cucumbers, garlic, tomatoes, and herbs by request. No basil again this week. Pastured eggs and locally produced Heiwa tofu will be available as well. 


It's blueberry day! Blueberries will be delivered TODAY, WEDNESDAY, August 18th around noon. Please pick up anytime after that (the sooner the better, as we do not have sufficient cooler space for all of them). Contact Tom (Mobile: 542-4097) if you need to make alternate pick-up arrangements.
This Week's Recipe: Tom's Tomato and Cucumber Salad
Tom served this after a group of us helped with haying one evening. It was incredibly delicious in its simplicity and has become a frequent side dish at our house.

tomatoes, chopped
cucumbers, halved and sliced
vinegar of your choice (apple cider and balsamic are both good)
olive oil
salt

1. Combine equal amounts tomato and cucumber in a large bowl.
2. Make a dressing of two parts olive oil and one part vinegar and combine with tomatoes and cucumbers.
3. Season to taste with salt. Easy peasy!
