Ahava* lived in Syria with her husband and four children. Their hometown was surrounded by terrorist groups. Bombings and the sound of gunfire were daily occurrences. Many people were killed; many more were injured. One day while Ahava’s children were playing in the street, a missile fell close to them, but it did not explode. Another day, the youngest son was playing at his friend’s house when a missile hit the home. The room where the children were playing was not damaged. Another son fell down the stairs when a missile exploded next to the family’s home. He lost his hearing for two days. In the end, Ahava and her family fled for safety to Iraqi Kurdistan.

Ahava’s family escaped the danger of war. But Ahava’s life remained difficult in other ways, and she experienced deep sadness. She was from a Christian background but had no joy in her heart, only emptiness. Questions about her purpose in life haunted her.

Ahava’s friend invited her to attend a house church meeting at a neighbor’s home. Members of the group talked about the Lord Jesus – His life and His salvation for all humanity. As she listened, Ahava’s soul was drawn to Jesus. Ahava surrendered her life to the Lord. She said she felt as if she had been dead and had come back to life. Her life began to change. Although she met with opposition from many of her family, she continued to read the Bible. Now she is filled with joy, peace, and consolation because of Jesus.

Please pray for Ahava to continue to grow in her faith. Also pray she will be healed from her physical struggles related to diabetes. Pray the Lord, through His tenderness and love, will draw her husband, her children, and her family to Him so they too will experience His salvation.

Children's Resources
Five short videos and reproducible handouts
Perfect for VBS or Children's Ministries

Meet Nisaf, a winsome twelve-year-old girl in Kurdistan (northern Iraq). She lives with her family in a refugee camp, along with 8,000 other children and their families, after they fled from ISIS terrorists. Through five short videos Nisaf shows us where she lives and other special places in the camp, including the Noor Center. Established by Impact Middle East, the Noor Center creates ways for children to laugh, play, and feel safe again after all the trauma they have experienced in their lives. Reproducible handouts provide activities and additional information for each of the videos. Project options provide ways for children’s groups to help children like Nisaf.
