Editorial

Dear Partners and friends,

We are living in difficult times. The COVID pandemic is wreaking havoc and the recently released IPCC Sixth Assessment Report warns that we must take immediate and extraordinary steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The poorest and most marginalised countries, communities, households and individuals are bearing, and will bear, the harshest burdens from COVID and the climate crisis. In cities worldwide, where the majority of the global population lives, the combined impacts of these crises and rapid growth are making it increasingly difficult to provide sustainable water and sanitation services, particularly to the urban poor. Change is needed. And change is possible.

The pandemic has revealed, once again, the high levels of corruption that beset the provision of services across the world. What is less obvious is the actions that are taken on a daily basis by those committed to rooting out corruption and to governing with integrity. The upcoming Water Integrity Global Outlook 2021 (WIGO2021): Urban water and sanitation celebrates the incredible work that is being done by these integrity champions around the world.

Join us to learn from them at the WIGO launch at Stockholm World Water Week on August 25 and meet the team and WIN partners at a series of sessions to discuss the practical way forward to strengthen climate adaptation work and service provision with integrity.

We look forward to exchanging ideas soon.
