Promote your volunteering opportunities in September

September is the start of the new academic year and will be our next big "moment" to promote volunteering opportunities to the general public and we want to hear from you about your volunteering opportunities.

Why September?

Like January, this is a time of year when people may want to make new habits or routines. Young people (or anyone starting a new college course) will be starting a new phase in their education and/or training where volunteering will be something they want to explore. For example, students in year 12 and 13 may want to volunteer to boost their UCAS application and/or CV, or to complement a subject they are studying.

Students on vocational courses in health or social care may want or need some kind of volunteering experience directly relevant to their course. Parents with school aged children may now have the time to take on a new volunteer role.

What we're doing

We will be sending out a bumper newsletter in September to our mailing list of 1,500 residents (here is one of our most recent Volunteering newsletters).

We will also be running a social media campaign throughout the second half of September and we're hosting an informal drop-in day at Volunteer Centre Sutton in the last week of September.

This is a fantastic opportunity to get your roles seen. We are looking for roles to promote to 2 groups of people:

Volunteering Opportunities for 16+

We are particularly keen to find volunteering opportunities open to 16-24 year olds, and especially those for 16-18 year olds.
We will be doing a targeted campaign with these opportunities to all secondary schools and colleges in Sutton, as well as running targeted social media.

If you have suitable opportunities please contact Marta Rocco at martarocco@vcsutton.org.uk no later than Friday 27th August

We appreciate that many organisations have a minimum requirement of 18 years for volunteers but if you would like to discuss how to open up your roles to 16-18 year olds, we would love to hear from you. We're currently engaging with a number of organisations to strengthen Sutton's volunteering offer to under 18s.

We're very proud that our own MAPS mentoring won this award in 2014 and the photo above shows Caroline one of our MAPS mentors at the Buckingham Palace ceremony.
