Sunday Worship

In today’s gospel many people take offense at Jesus’ invitation to eat his flesh and drink his blood; even many of Jesus’ disciples peel off. This is the backdrop in John’s gospel for Peter’s confession of faith. “To whom can we go?” asks Peter, in words we sometimes sing just before the gospel is read. “You have the words of eternal life.” In order to take such a stand, as Peter and Joshua did, Paul tells us to arm ourselves with the word of God. We pray in the Spirit that we might be bold ambassadors of the gospel.

Pastor Dave's Farewell & Jubilee Sunday

You’ll want to be “at” Zion this weekend for special events on August 22 & 23.

At the 10:30 Sunday worship, the Jubilee Worship Team will be leading music outdoors. Come to listen to the favorites from the first worship team that led at Zion from the early 1990s until around 2014. You'll recognize many familiar musicians who continue to lead worship at Zion in various ways: Kevin Bergquist, Gene & Sheila Blandford, Jan Carlson, Doug Gregerson, Tim Lungstrom, & Bob Strommen. Bring your lawn chair and come early for worship so that you can hear their prelude songs, too. Rainy weather would mean 10:30 worship moves indoors, but the music’s great in either location!

Whether you come for 8:30, 10:30 or Marysville (7pm on Monday) you can join Pastor Dave for a farewell reception. We’ve ordered delicious chocolate chip cookies from Gather that we can all enjoy after worship while visiting with Pastor Dave. Ms. Felecia Boone, the Minneapolis Synod vice-president will be at Zion on Sunday to participate in the conclusion of a call during worship. Pastor Dave’s conclusion of call is also a part of worship online at 10am.

Flowers

Flowers by the altar at the 9am worship service are from the funeral of Joyce Tokkesdal on Friday.

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) currently recommends that everyone, both fully vaccinated and unvaccinated, continue to wear a well-fitted mask in indoor settings in areas of substantial or high transmission. Wright County is currently rated as an area with high Covid transmission (up from substantial last week).
