With summer days rapidly transitioning into the beginning of school, it's more important than ever to stock up on nutrient dense foods for breakfast, lunch boxes, after school snacks, and family dinners. There’s no better breakfast for that growing mind and body than a protein-rich meal of farm fresh eggs, a favorite breakfast meat, and fresh fruit. Pack some carrots, celery, or sliced peppers for a lunch treat. Keep a bowl of cut up melon chilled for an easy snack. All of the meat and produce farmers at the market have a wide variety of delicious, fresh seasonal options for every meal. Focus on healthy grains like granola bars from Boda Bee and the Mighty Oats, a loaf of bread from Verdant Bread, or whole wheat pasta from Mano Bella Artisan Foods. Enjoy a delicious entree from Divine Taste Cooking, Magpies, and Thoughtful Baking Company. All of our artisan vendors use the healthiest, freshest ingredients so you can shop with confidence for the most delicious food around.
Please continue to socially distance at vendor tents and take advantage of the market’s three hand-washing stations. We’ll have plentiful sanitizers at all the vendor tents. Since mask mandates are back for indoor places, we can all appreciate the opportunity to shop for the freshest produce, meats, and artisan foods at an outdoor farmers market. We will keep a close watch on CDC protocols for outdoor gatherings, but please wear a mask if you feel more comfortable. We’ll continue to work together to get past this pandemic and keep one another safe.
If you have small visitors with you, be sure to stop by the Children’s Tent for a creative learning opportunity!

From Charlotte Culinary Expert, Heidi Billotto
Feeling Corny? Good! Then, you'll fit right into the spirit of the market's summer season when fresh corn and tomatoes are in their prime. This week, Heidi Billotto shares recipes for two summer sides everyone will love.
Summer Succotash, made with fresh corn cut from the cob or for even deeper flavor that takes the succotash to a next level, grill the corn on the cob and then use it in the recipe. Serve your succotash in all veggie mode, or add cooked rice for a heartier side dish that becomes a summer salad once you add the tomato vinaigrette.
Or, cut your corn off the cob - raw or once it's been grilled; and puree for a creamed corn side, that easily becomes a cold or hot creamed corn soup with the addition of a bit of chicken or veggie stock and seasonings to suit your tastes. Eat up the season, and then preserve it, by cutting corn off the cob and freezing it in plastic freezer bags or glass canning jars, to use in the winter as well.
Cheers,
Heidi
