Green Recovery Challenge Fund grant of £294,000 for chalk streams
The Chiltern Society and Chilterns Conservation Board are delighted to have received a Government Green Recovery Challenge Fund grant of £294,000. The grant will fund and exciting range of projects that will help protect our rare chalk stream and wetland habitats in the Chilterns, as well as helping to connect more people to these special places.
The Chilterns Conservation Board supported the charities involved, such as the Chiltern Society and the Chiltern Rangers, to secure the funding, and will now work together with them to deliver the projects.

Foraging the fruits of the Chilterns
It’s late summer, when the hedgerows of the Chilterns are starting to burst into colour with berries and abundant fruit – you can see blackberries and elderberries, crab apples, damsons, rosehips and rowan. It’s a great time for foraging and who doesn’t love a handful of free fresh blackberries on their cereal or a juicy plum?
We've put together a blog packed with recipes & tips for foraging in the Chilterns.
We'd love to see your photos of your foraged fruit, foraging expeditions, or makes and bakes from your foraging finds. Email us and we will share the best pictures on social media!

Our favourite outdoor café walks
There’s nothing better than a walk in the countryside and the promise of home-baked cake or other delicious local produce at a café along the way!
We've picked some of our favourite walks that are near to cafés with outdoor seating in beautiful locations. We're so excited that the Chilterns has such fantastic refuelling places for cyclists, horse-riders and walkers, or people just looking for a beautiful place for a cuppa.

On 13 September Parliament debated calls to stop HS2 & repeal the legislation. We issued a briefing to local MPs setting out the reasons why we believe HS2 should stop.
We would like to thank all MPs who voiced their concerns, especially those pertinent to the Chilterns AONB. We agree that a full debate is now needed to address the increasing costs, increased environmental damage, lack of respect for local communities and a much-needed revised business case. We are also pleased that the minister agreed to answer in writing all the questions that he did not have time to address in the debate.
Missed the debate? You can read the transcript here.

Our formal complaint to the Planning Inspectorate gets a High Court Review
At the end of July, we were deeply concerned when the council made an appeal decision to approve the development of 133 assisted living homes on a greenfield site in the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Beauty, near the beautiful wooded Blackmore Lane in Sonning Common.

Read about our concerns with this development, our complaint letter to the Planning Inspectorate, and how there is now a chance for a High Court Review.

This September, the Climate Coalition is running The Great Big Green Week, a nationwide grassroots event, and the biggest climate change focussed event the UK has ever seen - in the run up to COP26, the United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties.
We've listed events happening in the Chilterns, as well as online opportunities and volunteering opportunities.
