The Make It York business team will be moving to City of York Council’s Economic Growth team on 1st September 2021, in a move to strengthen the delivery of business support, economic development and inward investment activity across York. Read the team profiles to find out who can help you best with your business support needs, offer advice and answer questions. 
York-based charities, social enterprises, voluntary and community groups have been awarded grant funding of more than £60,000 by York CVS, Make It York and City of York Council to support residents' wellbeing through a variety of new initiatives - from fairy trails and community coffee mornings to youth theatre workshops, excavation projects and craft workshops. The Screen Industries Growth Network (SIGN) is launching a free, six month training and mentoring scheme for people wishing to develop a career in the TV and film industry. The Early Careers Support scheme is open to recent graduates from the Yorkshire and the Humber region who are struggling to break into the sector. Find out more and apply before 3 September
Last month, the Lord Mayor of York hosted a Hospitality Summit at York Racecourse. The summit brought together leaders from the city’s hospitality industry, education and training providers and key partners to discuss the skills and recruitment challenges faced by York’s hospitality sector, and identify appropriate solutions. The Government committed to conduct a fundamental review of business rates and published the terms of reference for the review at the Spring Budget. There is a live consultation which is seeking the views of businesses on matters such as the frequency of revaluations. Find out more and respond to the consultation before 24 August.
iTravel are working together with York’s bike shops to enable individuals to experience life with an e-cycle for one week, for free. If you decide it’s right for you, the scheme offers a discount of £300 to buy your own e-cycle. This discount can be redeemed on a range of e-cycles at participating bike shops.

Innovate UK, is offering at least 20 Women in Innovation Awards to female entrepreneurs across the UK. The winners who show they can make a significant contribution to a pressing societal, environmental or economic challenge through their innovative project, will receive a £50,000 grant and a bespoke package of mentoring, coaching and support. York-based Family Fund Business Services (FFBS) worked with its customers to help deliver essential support to over half a million households during the pandemic. They support vulnerable people in the UK and sadly the drastic financial impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on those already facing hardship is reflected in their 2020/21 figures. Find out more

Stylish racegoers at the Welcome to Yorkshire Ebor Festival this weekend are in with the chance of winning bottles of award-winning gin that’s made only three miles from York Racecourse. York Gin are sponsoring all four days of the festival’s Fashion Lawn – with beautiful gin hampers containing York Gin goodies on offer for the smartest racegoers. Twenty-five newly attributed Thomas Gainsborough drawings will go on public display for the first time in a major exhibition opening at York Art Gallery this autumn. The beautiful drawings, lent by HM The Queen from the Royal Collection, were re-attributed to Gainsborough in 2017 and transform our understanding of him as a talented landscape artist. Find out more
Open Lunch aims to get people away from eating lunch at their desks to come together over food and conversation. It takes place on Mondays at Shambles Market and Thursdays at Spark (12.30-1.30pm).
