As you read this, our pastoral team is in Springfield for a clericus gathering with our new Assisting Bishop, Paul Lambert. Bishop Lambert will be serving our diocese part-time until the 12th Bishop of Springfield is consecrated next May. After a difficult few years, it is a great feeling to be moving forward into a new era in the life of the Diocese of Springfield. Within a month, we should learn the names of all those who were nominated and passed background checks in our Bishop search. This is the pool from which lay and clergy delegates from every church will choose the final slate of three candidates at Synod on Oct 15-16. Please continue in prayer for those leading our diocese -- as well as all working on the Bishop search, especially Bill Techau from Emmanuel.

EDUCATION BLESSING
Let us pray for you! If it's back to school time for you (as a student, teacher, staff, anything), we will offer a special blessing at the 9 a.m. Mass on August 22nd. Join us and invite a friend or colleague
CHOIR RETREAT
The Emmanuel choir will hold a retreat on Sunday, August 29, at 10:30 a.m. following morning mass. We will discuss plans for the 2021-2022 year, reconnect with one another, and end with a short rehearsal. All former and current choir members are invited; anybody interested in joining the choir can email choirmaster Nicholas Pothier ( nicholas.pothier@gmail.com). We'd love to have you join us!
IN-PERSON DAILY OFFICE
After Labor Day, Emmanuel's goal is to return to in-person Daily Office 5 days a week, morning and evening. For us to do so, we need two additional lay leaders to commit to pray (one for a morning and one for an evening); are you interested in being trained to join the team that has kept intercession and adoration going in our building for years, day by day? Speak with any of the pastoral staff!
MEETING JESUS AT MASS
Our August homily series concludes this week, and after the 9 a.m. Mass there will be one more chance to discuss our summer book by Henri Nouwen, With Burning Hearts.
UNITED THANK OFFERING REMINDER
There is still time to participate in Emmanuel's 2021 United Thank Offering, which will be presented at Synod in the fall. If you would like to express your gratitude via this special offering, which supports innovative mission and ministry throughout the Episcopal Church and Anglican Communion, you may give anytime this summer via your Breeze app or on our website or by mailing a check to the church. However you give, be sure to indicate UTO in the memo line or comment field!
