It's corn season! We're happy to eat this sweet summer treat any way we can get it, including the Mexican street food classic, elotes. It's creamy, salty, sweet, and spicy with a refreshing hit of lime juice and cilantro (or not, for all you cilantro doubters out there!). And if you prefer eating your corn with a spoon, you can always make esquites instead.

On a more sobering note, Dawn Woodward of Evelyn's Crackers shared this article about the climate crisis struggles Canadian grain farmers have faced this year, with drought and heat - including wildfire threats - in the west, and drought followed by devastating storms here in Ontario. Dawn and other bakers across Canada discuss their strategies for coping with changing grain conditions in their baking, an especially crucial concern when you work wholly with whole grains, as Dawn does.

Thanks for continuing to wear your masks while you are in the market. The narrow walkways of our market can make distancing difficult, but leaving your masks on helps all of our community be supported and safe.

Online Ordering and Pick Up

Many of our vendors have set up online ordering systems; you can find the links above through their websites. This is a great way to make sure you get your tomatoes while keeping your shopping time down. Please note that some vendors are using our order pick up service, in collaboration with the Toronto Farmers’ Market Collective, at the market entrance next to the splash pad on Walkway 5.

Orders can be picked up at the pickup depot between 8 am and 12 pm. Please make sure to confirm your pickup location when you place your orders; some vendors are doing pick ups at their stalls.

Vendor Spotlight

Andreas and Nicole at Buschbeck Farms raise their pastured sheep in Grey County. They are strong believers in raising their livestock in an ethical and sustainable way, providing an abundance of healthy pasture, growing all of their feed on the farm, and holding certification from the Global Animal Partnership (GAP), which guarantees a high standard of care. An inside tip - their lamb bacon is a fan favourite! You can follow them at @buschbeck_farm

Made at the Barns

This week we welcome Stephanie Cormier, who works with a variety of sculptural and digital media. Stephanie is interested in finding resourcefulness and wonder in everyday materials and actions. You can follow her at @scormierstudio.
