The National Food Strategy – what do we think?
In July the government-commissioned National Food Strategy was launched. Henry Dimbleby, British businessman, cookery author and founder of the Leon chain of restaurants, led the process.
The report shined a spotlight on the food system and how our diets shape public health across England. The recommendations in the report also set a bold challenge to government to radically overhaul the complex systems and culture that shape our food and diet.
Given the rising obesity rates and the fact healthy weight is vital for cancer risk reduction, more action is needed to deliver healthy diets. However, measures to move away from processed food and junk food, and promote and protect health are very welcome.
Our policy team strongly encourages the UK government to commit to taking forward and implementing Henry Dimbleby’s recommendations highlighted within this report.
