BIKI BLAST: AUGUST 2021

Since the installation of the King Street Protected Bikeway in 2014, the number of cyclists and the demand for safer places to bike has continued to increase. Our city has responded by planning and implementing even more complete streets projects including major improvements to South Street, Pensacola Street and, most recently, Ward Avenue. Now, they are switching the focus to the downtown area and planning to move ahead with several projects in 2022.
Punchbowl Street - A one-way protected bike lane (makai-bound) will connect the King Street Protected Bikeway to Pohukaina Street.

Richards Street - A one-way protected bike lane (makai-bound) will connect Hotel Street to Halekauwila Street.

Alakea Street - A one-way protected bike lane (mauka-bound) will connect Hotel Street to King Street.
Vulnerable Road Users Safety Act
Senator Brian Schatz recently introduced new legislation that would improve road safety engineering standards and make streets safer for cyclists and pedestrians.

“For too long, transportation policy has been focused on how we can fit more cars on our roads, but that isn’t the only way people travel. My bill will make it safer for everyone to use our streets – whether it’s on foot or on a bike,” - Schatz (D-HI)
MICROMOBILITY REPORT
Despite stay-at-home orders, the shift to remote work, and a significant reduction of travel, North Americans still took an estimated 83.4 million micromobility trips in 2020, a 22% reduction from 2019. NABSA's State of the Industry Report examines the impact, response, and resilience of bikeshare during the COVID-19 pandemic.

FROM THE BIKI CREW
Having trouble removing a Biki bike from the dock? Check to see if the light on the docking point is red. A red light indicates that the bike is non-operable. If it's red, try using the same code to release a different bike at the station. If the light is not red, make sure you are entering your release code correctly (if using App or Kiosk), and that your account is currently active (if using Biki Pass). If you still have trouble, call us at 888-340-2454.
Having difficulty docking a bike with a flat tire? If the flat tire is on the rear wheel, use force to push the bike into an open dock until you see a green light. If the flat is in the front, you'll need to lift the front of the bike slightly so that it is level with the docking point before pushing it in. Don't forget to press the red wrench button to the left of the bike until the light turns red. This locks the bike in place and notifies our team to collect it for repairs.
Terms and Conditions Update - On September 1, we will be updating Biki's Terms and Conditions. The only change that will impact customers will be the date when Extra Time fees are billed. Extra Time fees will no longer be batched and billed on the 15th of each month. Instead, Extra Time will be billed within 48 hours of any trip that exceeds the maximum ride duration included in each membership type.
Join the Biki Crew - We're always looking for enthusiastic individuals to join the Biki Crew. We have part-time and full-time positions available including van drivers, bike mechanics and customer service agents. Please apply online to help us keep Honolulu moving!
