Get Your Tickets for Tostada Bingo on September 25
Tell your friends that our club is hosting the Tostada Bingo fundraiser on Saturday, September 25 and encourage them to get their tickets early.
  • This is our traditional, town favorite, family-friendly fundraiser.
  • It will be held at the Loomis Memorial Hall, 5945 Horseshoe Bar Road.
  • The doors open at 5:30 PM and the event begins at 6 PM.
  • Tickets are $35 each and available with cash or check at Hebard Insurance, located at 3837 Taylor Road, Loomis and through Venmo @SoroptimistLoomis (tickets will be held at Will Call). Limited tickets may be available at the door.
Everyone receives a Bingo game packet and dauber; additional packets may be purchased. Enjoy a delicious shredded beef tostada dinner with non-alcoholic drink and dessert included with your ticket. There is also a no-host cash bar. There are great prizes for Bingo and raffle winners.
The funds raised will support our mission of providing education programs that lead to economic empowerment for women and girls, locally and globally.

Founding Member Rhonda Nelthorpe Morillas Recognized by Town
There is a new plaque in Loomis recognizing club founding member, Rhonda Nelthorpe Morillas, for 28 years of service on the Loomis Town Council.
Congratulations to Rhonda! You are a role model who broke through traditional barriers at a time when few women held public office. Your dedicated leadership has left such positive impact on our community. The club is so proud of you.

At Retreat, Members Set Plans for this Year
At the retreat, the club made plans for service projects by partnering with organizations that empower women through education such as Stand Up Placer, Acres of Hope and Days for Girls Around the World.
In addition, we reviewed the budget and considered fundraisers that would support our goals and awards program. During the brainstorming, members suggested ways to make the first Wednesday business meetings more of a fun event to encourage attendance so we’d have a quorum to keep projects moving forward.
Attendees began building committees for projects, fundraisers, awards, public awareness, nominating the next board, president book, installation, white elephants, secret pals, club holiday party, sunshine, LIFE center gifts, Chamber mixer to support the Christmas basket program and Thanksgiving Day parade. At upcoming meetings, all club members will be able to volunteer for committees that interest them.
President Rae's Message
I am looking forward to an exciting year as President.  Our retreat was a great start, filled with engaged members, great ideas and enthusiasm supporting our mission statement. The "let's get it done" attitude will strengthen our fundraisers, allowing us to reach more young women and girls in need.
Together, we can make a difference in our community.  I am delighted for the opportunity to be your president this year.

We met up with other Clubs at the Pink Martini
Members of our club joined those from the Roseville, Lincoln and South Placer clubs for a fun evening out at the Pink Martini on August 17. Thanks to President Rae for co-organizing the event and donating the appetizers. We shared ideas, caught up with friends we’d met at conference and district events, danced to the band and enjoyed a few laughs. It was a great way to kick off the year and share our Soroptimist spirit.
Club Ranked Best of the Best
Thanks to our wonderful community, Soroptimist Loomis Basin was voted “best of the best” local charity non-profit in the Loomis News.
Also, congratulations to club members Jackie DeMartini, JC Bookkeeping; Sharla Caves, Edward Jones; Chris Hebard-Summers, Hebard Insurance; and Nancy Hogan, Loomis Self Storage who won recognition.
Meet Marilyn Robinson
Marilyn Robinson has been a member of the Loomis Basin club since 2010. "I was looking for a community of women to build friendships and to give back to the community," said Marilyn. "My kids were graduating from high school and so my volunteer days at the school were coming to an end."

As a member of the club, Marilyn indicated that she enjoys planning and presenting the Soroptimist International Dream It Be It curriculum to girls at Koinonia Group Homes. "My heart goes out to Dream It Be It," said Marilyn. "I enjoy helping girls build confidence and teaching them that dreams can come true."

Marilyn is a Life Designer Coach. "I help people create a Lifestyle Vision for the last third of their life," said Marilyn. "So many people dread turning 60 and feel it is all downhill from there. I disagree.  Working with people in their 40s-60s, I help them identify how they want to spend the last third of their life and together we create a plan to get there."

She enjoys being a member of the Loomis Basin club. "The women in this club are amazing," said Marilyn. "It's great to surround myself with like-minded and giving women.  We enjoy working together on projects and spending time relaxing with each other."
We Love Loomis Meet-ups
Club members met up in July at the Flower Farm and in August at La Fogata. These causal gatherings were organized by Sheila Lee & Peggy Word. The club doesn’t meet during the summer, so these enabled us to keep in touch and support local businesses.
Senior LIFE Center reopens
The Loomis Soroptimist club founded the senior LIFE Center in Loomis and continues to support the program. The center reopened with in-person Zumba, Stretcherize, Yoga, and Sewing classes and lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Thank you, business and individual donors for over $3,500 in a challenging year!
