Happy Friday!

Passing along some interesting tidbits of information related to price transparency enforcement from our CMS contact:

1.  Just over 200 non-compliance letters have been issued to date.  After hospitals have had a chance to digest the rules (e.g., CMS held a webinar last Wednesday to go over the machine-readable requirements), the pace of non-compliance letters will rapidly accelerate.

2.  Non-compliance letters are issued on a monthly basis

3.  To date, CMS has not issued any fines

In summary, CMS has been relatively patient in hospital price transparency enforcement.  This “patience period” will likely extend until Fall.  At that point, expect to see actual fines issued to non-compliant hospitals.

If this wasn’t enough for hospitals to address, keep in mind that Price Transparency Round 2 goes into effect on 1/1/22:

Hospital Pricing Specialists has already developed a product that meets the requirements of Round 2.  Schedule a time on my private calendar if you’d like to see a demo.

If you work with HPS, you’ll have peace of mind knowing that your hospital is in full compliance.  Recently, Patient Rights Advocate audited 500 hospitals throughout the U.S.  PRA found only 5.6% of the audited hospitals to be in full compliance.  One of the hospitals in this 5.6% pass group, was a client of HPS!  See full report [Here].

Have a great weekend!
