3D Layered Scenery - Job de Bruin
WIth first introductions through DeAgostini Battle games in Middle Earth magazines. Using Autocad with the first creations the game had begun. After positive feedback it was then time to take this side interest into a full business.

Why Did You Start 3D Layered Scenery? How did you ever get into the business of 3D Printing?
My first introduction to miniature games was the DeAgostini Battle games in Middle Earth magazines when I was about 6/7 years old. Tutorials for creating terrain were included in these magazines which I used to create my own terrain to play the game.

When I grew up, the hobby faded and I began to invest my time in other activities until at a certain point, when I was 20 years old, the hobby came back into my life. Right now I was still creating foam sets until I was introduced to a 3D printer in my studios. This piqued my interest in creating 3D models for printing.

In my spare time from studying, I started creating models with the use of Autocad, which is definitely not suitable for the gaming field, but it worked well enough to start with. I got a lot of positive feedback on the models I created and I was hired for some small commissions that really pushed me towards the business side.

How did you come up with your name?
I wanted a name that had a reference to 3D printing in it, but not using the word 'print' or 'print'. In addition to this, the name had to be catchy and easy to pronounce. Because 3D printing is done by a build-up of layers, I found this to be a good word to use in the name. And after rating some concepts by family and friends, 3Dlayeredscenery became the name.

How Do You Come Up With Focusing on Unique Terrain settings?
I've always really enjoyed building worlds, when I was younger, I played Minecraft a lot and really liked creating big, immersive worlds. This is also what I try to do with my projects, to create a world I will need a lot of individual buildings. Therefore, the more models I can include in a project, the better.

What Have You Been Working On Recently? Can you tell us what might be upcoming?
Currently I am still finishing the city of Leichheim, but I have already planned a completely new project that I will start after a two week vacation. All I can say is that I am looking forward to add more immersion to my models by adding many more accessories and small details to the buildings.

What's Been Your Favorite STL Release to Date?
My Favorite released STL is actually the Great Leichheim Mill, which was included in the Leichheim kickstarter base pack. I love it because it is so different from an ordinary windmill and I love its complete shape.

What does an average day look like for you from start to finish?
My work days are pretty boring....

After waking up around 7:00, I start my day with a bowl of oatmeal and some juice while checking my email and the 3Dlayeredscenery Facebook group for any unread messages. Once I have answered them and finished my breakfast, I will start working on the models that I am currently working on.

At 12:00 I will have a break and exercise at my home, "gym" (some weights in a shed). After this I will shower and continue working until 18:00. On a normal evening I try to enjoy it with a movie or playing games with friends. When I don't have anything fun to do in the evening, I work until 21:00, relax a bit for 2 hours, and go to bed at 23:00.

And this is basically a repeat from Monday to Friday.

However, at the moment my schedule is a bit different, me and my girlfriend have bought our first house and are currently improving the house. So I basically work every other day at the moment.
