Alaska INBRE

2021 RESEARCH RETREAT

Alaska INBRE leadership and staff have been planning the event and working with the UAF COVID Response Team to ensure the safety of all participants.  Lately, we've been watching the Alaska risk level and talking to our university scientists to determine how to safely host the event. At this time, the Management Advisory Committee has decided to postpone the event in light of the high alert level for Alaska.  We hope to reschedule the event for spring 2022, and will keep you informed through our website and this weekly update. Thank you for your patience and support during these continuing challenging times.

NIH Virtual Workshop on Broadening Cloud Computing Usage in Biomedical Research
To gain insight into barriers toward equitable access to cloud resources, ODSS, NIGMS, NIMHD, CIT will hold a virtual workshop on Sept 13-14 to bring students, faculty, and researchers from universities and colleges within the IDeA-eligible states, Research Centers in Minority Institutions, and Minority Serving Institutions, and representatives from funding agencies together to explore the needs, challenges and opportunities of cloud computing in these institutions.

There are a limited number of seats in the breakout sessions. Please register before midnight on Sept 8 in order to be considered to attend a breakout session. You will be emailed if you are selected to attend a breakout session. Learn more/register

Office of Science Graduate Student Research Awards (SCGSR)
The SCGSR program supports awards to outstanding U.S. graduate students to conduct part of their graduate theseis research at a Department of Energy (DOE) national laboratory or host site in collaboration with a DOE laboratory scientist - with the goal of preparing graduate students for scientific and technical careers, critically important to the DOE Office of Science mission. SCGSR is open to current Ph.D. students in qualified graduate programs at accredited U.S. academic institutions, who are conducting their graduate thesis research in target areas of importance to the DOE Office of Science. Since its inception in 2014, the SCGSR program has provided support to over 700 graduate awardees from 150 different U.S. universities to conduct thesis research at all 17 DOE national laboratories across the nation.

Applications are due November 10, 2021

With 12 scientific disciplines represented at ABRCMS, the program offers a robust selection of content allowing attendees to delve into their scientific interests, or explore multidisciplinary topics and research.

Please consider volunteering your time as a virtual judge.

STUDENTS - Last year, more than 1,000 students shared their research and made meaningful connections that will last long after the conference ends.
