Laneway Suites Review - Information Sessions

August 31 and September 1
As you may know, the City has a policy to intensify neighbourhoods. First, by the rezoning of all neighbourhoods with lanes for Laneway Suites.  Next are Garden Suites - second, generally smaller, houses built in the backyard of a detached, semi-detached, or townhouse property without a lane. The City is intending to pass city-wide zoning permitting Garden Suites in all neighbourhoods by year end.
Experiences with Laneway Suites are influencing the Garden Suites regulations now being written.

The construction of Laneway Suites began in 2018. Approximately 240 building permit applications have been submitted, 50 have been completed, and 130 are in various stages of construction.

A City evaluation report on how the Laneway Suites by-law is progressing will be presented to the public at two upcoming virtual information sessions.

August 31, 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm
and
September 1, 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm

Links to registration for each session have been posted to the Changing Lanes website under the “Meetings & Events” tab. Both meetings include the same content.

We recommend that you attend because
  • The Laneway Suites regulations are being used as a comparison to the proposed regulations for Garden Suites
  • Garden Suites have similarities and differences to Laneway Suites
  • Attend to understand how both these new backyard homes may affect you (AND YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD)
