Summer of '21 - best summer since i was a kid

8/22/21
As summer draws closer to an end with the steamy Nashville skyline in my background, I reflect on the last few months and realize it has been one amazing summer! We left Nashville in May, made a lap around the western United States, came back mid-July & have been going non-stop since.

Not listed: 5/30 - Tuscon, AZ ~ 6/11 - Bakersfield, CA ~ 6/15 - Crescent City, CA

Cody Joe Hodges to open for Mark Wills at the Saltville, VA - Labor Day 2021 Music Festival

The road has been long and winding, with many turns, but we stay on God's course and keep traveling the journey.  Very proud to say we will be at this years Saltville, VA - Labor Day 2021 Music Festival where Mark Wills will be headlining on Monday, September 6th, 2021.

Upcoming events

I'll be working a few venues in Nashville as my hub til' the middle of October, before heading out west again for our fall tour.  With many performances around town, I'll also be traveling out of state to Kentucky, Virginia, North Carolina & South Carolina over the next couple of months.  For an updated calendar, go to codyjoehodges.com/tour

That Country Sound

We are in the final stages of mixing "That Country Sound" at The House of David - Recording Studio on Music Row, originally recorded at Misstyx Recording Studio near the Grand Ole' Opry.  The album will feature 12 new tracks and 4 of my previous singles - to include the new single, "Give Me Back My Freedom".

The time goes fast and the wheel turns slow - we wanted to have the album out by now, but that's okay.  I've always heard measure twice, cut once & it applies to every step of the way here too.  We've been bouncing ideas back and forth all summer with our head engineer Brandon and am confident this will be the best one yet!

I am constantly inspired by my wife Jamie - she has not only gone above & beyond with management of me - a job on it's own, but has become quite a navigator in the music business & her songwriting is well above par too, which makes me a better writer.   We make each other better in many different ways.

In 2020, she picked up the cajon & started singing some with me.  She's always been shy to sing and I rarely have heard her sing in the 9 or so years I've known her, but something happened over last year that ignited a spark in her.  🤷🏽‍♂️ She is also becoming a staple performer in my band, taking the stage name JROK; showcasing and honing her talents on cajon and background vocals.  I haven't talked her into lead vocals just yet, but it's not uncommon to have someone in the crowd want her to sing one.

JROK knows my songs because she co-wrote most of them and it's a plus that she's a fan of country music. Traveling as an acoustical duo, picking up a player or two here or there has been a blessing in many ways and we're looking forward to getting back to full band speed. In many smaller to mid-size venues, the cajon is a perfect fit, keeping the overall volume just a tad lower compared to the drums.

Here's the last month of our musical journey.  Mid-July to Mid-August.  We've seen plenty of fireworks in the last month, so it was very fitting to add them.
