Greetings Greenwich friends and neighbors.
The remnants of Hurricane Ida passed through our area last week and left about eight inches of rain within a nine-hour period of time resulting in flooding in many neighborhoods, in addition to many downed trees and power lines.
Residents have been seriously impacted in areas throughout our town. Many thanks to Town employees of Parks & Rec., DPW, Fleet, GPD, GFD, Town Administrator & COO Ben Branyan, IT, volunteers and so many residents who came out to help their neighbors in a time of great need. Our Town is a wonderful community where our civic spirit is present every day and this destructive weather event once again proved that.

Have you experienced damage or loss from Tropical Storm Ida?
The Town is working with the State of Connecticut to identify the extent of damage caused by the remnants of Tropical Storm Ida. The more accurate the assessment the better the Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (DEMHS) can determine if FEMA thresholds are met and a disaster declaration is needed.

COVID UPDATE
Greenwich Hospital started the day treating 6 COVID-positive patients, none are in the ICU.
Systemwide they are treating 121 patients.

Greenwich Library returns to normal business hours
We are pleased to announce that the Main Library has returned to its pre-pandemic opening hours, and is now open weekdays 9 am to 9 pm, Saturday 9 am to 5 pm and Sunday from 1:00-5:00 pm. If you haven't visited the Library in a while, stop by and experience the new and improved renovated spaces. New Phase of Old Greenwich Common Force Sewer Main Replacement Project Begins Today

Work Zone 1 and Work Zone 2 were completed ahead of time. Work Zone 3 officially begins today, September 10th. Construction is located on Summit Road between Oval Avenue and Spruce Street. A temporary road closure will take place from 7 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday. Depending on weather and unforeseen conditions, Work Zone 3 is anticipated to be completed in approximately three to four weeks. Department of Public Works recommends residents give themselves a little extra time when traveling, and stay vigilant for signage and detours posted.
For the safety of the workers, please stay alert, slow down, and select alternative routes. Follow @GreenwichPublicWorks on social media for the most recent updates. Department of Public Works, Sewer Division, strives to provide reliable service to the Town and implement important maintenance projects that protect the environment. This is an essential project that will improve the longevity and reliability of the most critical sewer force main in the Town of Greenwich's sewer system.
The segment of the Old Greenwich Common Force Main for this project carries wastewater under pressure from the Old Greenwich Pumping Station – Greenwich’s largest sewer pump station. There are six work zone sections comprised in this project, starting from the west and progressing east. The anticipated completion date of all six work zone sections is December 2021.

Sunday, September 19th: Family-Friendly Parade Down Greenwich Avenue
The Wearing of the Green-wich Thank you Parade
Celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Greenwich Police Department and honor Greenwich Hospital staff, first-responders, and essential Town workers who helped us through the pandemic. Led by 100 Police Motorcycles, a team of Horses, Bagpipe Bands from around the tri-state area, and Police Honor Guards from around the Country.
Step off at 1:00 p.m from Greenwich Town Hall and march through Greenwich to the Emerald Society Tattoo in the Park where Bagpipe Bands will perform with other Celtic-themed performances.

There is a tremendous demand for lightly used medical equipment. Donating something you are no longer using will benefit others who can borrow equipment that has been sanitized, plus donating is good for the environment.
Greenwich Commission on Aging and Wheel it Forward are teaming up for this event to benefit the Greenwich community, supporting the way our community thinks about availability, use, and reuse, thereby improving quality of life, saving money, and keeping usable equipment out of landfills.
Wheel it Forward is a volunteer-run, nonprofit community library that enables anyone to easily borrow or donate durable medical equipment at no cost.
Accepted items: Hospital Beds, Wheelchairs, NEW Commodes, Walkers, Knee Scooters, Canes, Crutches, Shower Tub Seats, Toilet Risers, Rollators, UNOPENED Disposable Items, Hoyer Lifts, Portable Wheelchair Ramps
