The Information Technology Director performs responsible administrative, supervisory and technical work in the development, implementation, management and operation of the Information Technology Department including the operations of the servers, fiber-optic network, and telephone system for the entire County government operation.  Work involves coordinating the installation of new systems and procedures, instructing personnel, recommending installation of computers and/or peripheral equipment, and overseeing development of digital databases and installation of hardware/software/phone system equipment.  Performs related work as assigned.  Reports to the Deputy County Manager.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, management information systems or related field supplemented by five (5) to seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience of system administration, networking experience, related SAN storage design/administration experience, programming, database structure best practices experience, relational database environment experience, and/or database security with four (4) years having been in a supervisory capacity; or equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.   Thorough knowledge and experience in problem solving, people management, written and verbal communication, and teamwork.   Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Physical Requirements
Tasks involve the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which involves some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 20 pounds) and occasionally heavier weight (up to 40 pounds).  Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.

The Risk Manager performs responsible work in planning, developing, coordinating, and administering a comprehensive risk management program for district-wide and contracted government entities, and developing and implementing safety programs in compliance with federal and state regulations to ensure a safe work environment.  Work involves developing and/or managing annual budget, coordinating programs and policies in loss prevention, workers compensation, safety training, and property and liability.  Work also involves indemnifying risks and exposures, developing loss prevention and safety policies and practices, insuring against losses, and protecting County employees and assets.  The Risk Manager annually negotiates insurance renewal contracts pertaining to all lines of coverage.  Initiative and independent judgment are required, as are tact and courtesy in communicating with employees, supervisors, management, and outside agencies.  Reports to the Deputy County Manager.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, or directly related field with seven (7) years of risk management experience, including three (3) years of mid to senior level supervisory or management experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.  Must be proficient with various computer software programs including Laserfiche document management software and Microsoft Office Tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).  

  • Valid North Carolina Driver's License required.
  • Associate in Risk Management (ARM) and/or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Designation highly desirable.

Physical Requirements
Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated office machines including computers, typewriters, calculators, copiers, facsimile machines, etc.  Must be able to exert 10 to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for periods of time.
