4,000 Hours Read = Teens Helping HomePlate

Local teens met our reading goal of 4,000 hours this summer (5,581 to be precise). Because of this, staff and teen council members delivered $1,000 and many books to HomePlate Youth Services recently. They provide teens with temporary shelter and various services while they search for a more permanent place to stay when they are unhoused.

Teen and tween summer readers earned prize books for reading and two lucky winners nabbed a Baby Yoda Reads poster as well.  Congratulations Kately P. and Desmond S. and to all who participated in summer reading this year.

Hot Teen Read: Firekeeper's Daughter

Firekeeper's Daughter by Angelline Boulley is the tale of Daunis, who is part Ojibwe and often feels out of place in her Michigan hometown and the nearby Ojibwe reservation. But when tragedy strikes, Daunis must use her smarts and traditional Ojibwe knowledge to solve a very personal mystery that is also quite dangerous.

This book is great for teens that love a good mystery or want to get steeped in a culture different from what we see in most teen books. This one is being made into a Netflix series soon, so read it before it starts streaming.
