SEPTEMBER UPDATE

FACTORY AND MARKET UPDATE
As harvest is all but done for the season we are looking to close of deliveries in early October to allow sufficient time for maintenance and repairs after the large increases in supplied volumes this year. I anticipate in excess of 6,500t of NIS will be received which is a sharp increase on previous seasons.
We have been very busy producing kernel and sorting NIS for export to ensure we are meeting customer needs. We have seen an increase in the proportion of the crop exported as NIS this season due to the continuing demand for this product. Kernel sales continue to progress with a significant proportion of the crop contracted, even with the jump in supply. We also continue to focus on value added product to take advantage of our dicing and roasting capacity.

We are experiencing some interruption to our shipping program, especially to those customers in North America, the Middle East and Europe while the majority of Asia is continuing with less problems. While we are not the only industry experiencing problems it is having flow-on effects to kernel storage requirement and demand for food grade containers to ship product in.
I would like to thank our valued growers for their support from the 2021 season as we look to the 2022 season with some areas experiencing exceptional flowering.
I note with interest the Bureau of Meteorology forecasting a wetter than average Spring which would be very welcome to those orchards looking for run-off water for irrigation to ensure adequate supplies for the remainder of the season.

FINAL CALL FOR DELIVERIES
We wish to thank all of our suppliers from all regions who have supplied your crop this year. We have received NIS from over 130 Shareholders and Independent Growers from as far north as the Atherton Tablelands, through to Mackay, Bundaberg, Childers, Gympie, Glasshouse Mountains, and down to Alstonville and everywhere in between - making it one of our biggest crops in many years.
We have so far received the vast majority of the crop to the factory and are now looking to complete deliveries of NIS so that we can focus on cracking and processing the crop as well as our maintenance program.

Any growers who still have contracted crop to deliver, please book a delivery or get in contact with your grower services officer as soon as possible so that we can schedule your deliveries.

Final date for deliveries is Friday 15th of October.

BIN RETURNS Please return all SGM Nally Bins to your local depot or to the Factory. These bins are provided on-loan to assist in delivery of your crop to the factory, they are not to be used as field bins or for storing Reject NIS.
ALL bins must be returned at the end of the season for stocktake and cleaning.

INTEGRATED PEST AND DISEASE MANAGEMENT (IPDM)

Flowering has been progressing well and generally all varieties are flowering strongly. Pollinator numbers are good and the crop is starting to set.

Continue to monitor your flowers at least weekly and watch out for Thrips in the late flower.

Avoid spraying any chemicals that are toxic to bees during flowering and try to minimise dust in the orchard.

Next key development stage will be matchhead size which important for prevention of Husk Spot Disease and for pest control.

INTEGRATED ORCHARD MANAGEMENT (IOM)

ORGANIC MATTER - Once final harvest round is complete, spread rotted husk, manures and composts - Note withholding period for uncertified compost or manure is 120 days for harvest (Refer to Code of Sound Orchard Practices COSOP).
ORCHARD HYGIENE - Keeping the orchard clean is key pest control pillar. Be prepared to mulch any fallen nut after harvest is finished in each block.
FOOD SAFETY - Only use registered or permitted chemicals, keep accurate records of chemical use and remember to comply to your Withholding Periods.
MISTLETOE is flowering now so ensure staff know how to identify and remove, once in the orchard it’s an ongoing job to stop it taking over, reducing productivity & even killing trees.
