Grit - A Essential Trait for Success

We all know that life is full of challenges.  All of us have times when we face difficult situations.  One of the greatest skills we can develop and teach our children to help get through challenges and meet our goals is GRIT, that ability to work hard and keep trying even when things are difficult and we feel we want to give up and quit.  In fact, science and research has shown that grit is the single greatest predictor of lifelong achievement!!!!

Here's a short video (less than 2 minutes!) that shows Disney characters reminding us all about the importance of grit: VIDEO

All Families Welcome at First School Council Meeting

All parents are invited and encouraged to join the Parkland Village School Council meetings this year!  Join us for our first meeting this coming Wednesday (September 15th) at 6:00 PM in the PVS Library.  What a great way to meet the new principal and ask him all of your questions!  We will also be setting goals for the year and looking for ways that parents and the school can work together to make PVS even more amazing!  If you are planning to attend, please RSVP to Shannon Auger (780-952-8980).    For more information on our School Council, CLICK HERE.

We hope to see you there!

CELEBRATING GRIT
Our grade 4 students discussed what grit and determination meant this week. We talked about a special group of people-healthcare workers and how they have shown grit through a pandemic. We wanted to show our appreciation to them so we made thank you cards and Ms.Sydora delivered them onto the windshields of the staff of two local
hospitals. We bumped into one nurse who thought this was a great idea!

Picture Day on Thursday

On Thursday, Lifetouch will be at our school taking School Pictures.  We can't wait to see all the smiles and good looking students (everyone of them!).  Kindergarten families are invited to bring their children to the school (come to the office) in the morning, about 8:30 AM for their pictures.

Terry Fox Run: Grit + Generosity = A Better World

We have already raised nearly $400 for the Terry Fox Foundation this year - that's AMAZING!!!!  Our goal is $500, and we believe we can exceed that this year!  Students can bring "toonies for Terry" or whatever amount your family is able to donate. There are jars in the office for each class and the class that raises the most money will duct tape Mr. Hennig to the gym wall.  Our walk is on October 6th at 11:15 AM.

School Fees

School fees are due September 30 and can be paid through Parent Portal or you can come into the office and pay by cash or cheque.  If you have concerns about fees, there is a process to apply for a fee waiver.  Call the office for more information.
