New Vision Festival Postponed

We regret to announce that ArtSpace Maynard is currently closed to the public, and our New Vision Festival is being postponed to a later date while we focus on restoring our building. The Town of Maynard’s Building Commissioner has issued a notice of reduced occupancy to ArtSpace Maynard, resulting in the closure of east wing and basement studios. Read the press release here.

We are devastated by this situation and hope to have all our artists back in their studios as quickly as possible. We are deeply grateful for any and all support as we work toward this goal.

The Straits of Magellan
by Lola Chaisson

Though the West Gallery is temporarily closed, ArtSpace studio artist Lola Chaisson has created a video tour of her installation that showcases her expansive, contemplative paintings of the landscape, flora, and fauna of the Straits of Magellan. Lola has made a wonderfully informative artist's walk-through video of her exhibit, letting us experience the Straits of Magellan through her eyes.

SPOTLIGHT
Board of Directors

Gail Erwin Elected as New Temporary Board President

It is with heartfelt gratitude that we thank Zannah Noe for her time spent serving ArtSpace, first as a director and then as our temporary Board President. Zannah announced she would be stepping down mid-summer, and formally relinquished her role on August 31. Her proactive leadership and steadfast dedication to ArtSpace will be missed.

The Board's Treasurer, Gail Erwin, has been elected to serve as president, ad interim, and she formally assumed this role on September 1. We are grateful to Gail for her generosity of spirit and her fortitude in taking on an additional position during this tumultuous time! Thank you, Gail, we are very fortunate to have you at the helm.

From Gail, "I have been elected to lead ArtSpace through this crisis. My goal is to make sure our building is open and our artists are back in their studios as soon as possible. I have the support of the Board of Directors and the dedicated and hard-working staff to accomplish this.”

Closing Thoughts

ArtSpace Is Not a Building but a Community

"She stood in the storm and when the wind did not blow her way — and surely it has not — she adjusted her sails."   — Elizabeth Edwards

The closure of ArtSpace's east wing and basement studios has been a heavy blow to our community and ArtSpace's economic stability, especially so soon after the pandemic shuttered our doors. ArtSpace staff and board members are working tirelessly to restore the historic building and return the artists to their studios, and are hopeful ArtSpace will return stronger and better than ever. In the meantime, we need to amend or postpone previously announced events, such as the New Vision Festival. We recognize that this is a significant disappointment, but we must focus on our immediate needs, and adjust our sails to weather this storm.

It is a challenging and emotional time, and we are grateful to all of our artists for their compassion and care for one another. ArtSpace really is about the people above all else, and it's heartening to watch the community pull together. Thank you also to our ArtSpace friends. We are grateful for your support.
