Quick updates!
- Our T-RUST students had a busy summer! Several interdisciplinary student groups secured external funding, many working with community partners!
- EPA, People, Prosperity and the Planet grant to use wells to monitor groundwater in Detroit (Brendan O'Leary, Brittanie Dabney, Kate Ekhator, Colleen Linn, Natalie Lyon, Adam Pruett, Sadaf Teimoori, Ashley LaCroix and Darrin Hunt)
- Ford College Community Challenge fund to help manage flooding in Pontiac (Katrina Lewandowski, Hector Esparra-Escalera and Jonathan Weyrauch)
- Optimize Wayne Social Innovation Challenge to monitor air quality in Detroit (Allie Lucas, Gelareh Raoufi, Brendan O'Leary, Noribeth Mariscal, Hector Esparra-Escalera and Brittanie Dabney)
- Students and faculty gathered for the annual T-RUST kayak trip in the lower Huron River!
- We welcomed our 2021 T-RUST students; Sarah Black, Jared Salin, Halima Salah, Samantha Pickering, Abby Pointer and Ashley LaCroix!

Featured Internship: Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, River Walker program
Sandaruwan Subasinghe (PhD communication student) worked with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, River Walker program to educate local and regional anglers about "Eat Safe Fish" programs and fish consumption guidelines in the Detroit River. This internship is integral in keeping local anglers and their families aware of environmental contaminants that may be impacting local fish communities while still highlighting the benefits of eating fish low in contaminants.

Featured Intership: City of Detroit General Services Department/Office of Sustainability
The City of Detroit, General Services and Office of Sustainability manages urban foresty and planting projects throughout the city. Three T-RUST students, Zahra Seblini, Rachel Bush and Jed Jacobson had the privilege of working with them on web messaging, forestry planting and planning. These students are preparing to canvass Detroit neighborhoods for a fall tree re-planting program.
