Kambarang (Second Spring)

During Kambarang, there are lots of colourful flowers in the bush. The yellows of Acacias abound, along with some Banksias and many delicate plants like Kangaroo Paws and Orchids. Balgas and Moodjars (WA Christmas Tree) start to flower. Snakes emerge from hibernation, and baby birds will be singing out to be fed (from Nyoongar Calendar BOM).

It's Turtle Nesting Season!

Our rivers and wetlands are home to a near threatened species of snake-necked turtle. In spring and summer these turtles travel up to 1km from water in search of a nesting site.
What should you do if you see a turtle?
1. Record all sightings of turtles using the TurtleSAT website or App.
2. Be a turtle bodyguard! They are not lost. If they need help, assist them in the direction they were heading, and protect them from predators. It is best to keep your distance, but you can wave off birds if they attack.
3. Take all injured or dead turtles to the WA Wildlife Hospital at Bibra Lake.

National Recycling Week

8 - 14 November

We need to rethink our waste and see it as a resource that can be turned into new products. By keeping these materials in circulation for as long as possible, this benefits the environment by reducing the extraction of virgin materials for new products, as well as the water and energy it takes to make them. Click the links for information on how to get involved at home, work, school and in the community.
