ASSISTANT PROFESSOR MIHAELA MIHAILOVA:
"TO DALLY WITH DALI: DEEPFAKE (INTER)FACES IN THE ART MUSEUM"
Assistant Professor Mihaela Mihailova has published an article in a special issue of Convergence: The International Journal of Research into New Media Technologies dedicated to the topic of deepfakes and the digital face. The article, titled “To Dally with Dalí: Deepfake (Inter)faces in the Art Museum," focuses on the nascent symbiotic relationship between deepfakes and art museums and galleries. It examines the ways in which the acquisition of creative deepfake works by cultural institutions functions as a legitimizing force that is already shifting the narrative regarding the artistic value and social functions of this technology.

PROFESSOR JOSEPH McBRIDE'S CRITICAL STUDY "BILLY WILDER:
DANCING ON THE EDGE" WILL BE AVAILABLE ON SEPTEMBER 24 FROM COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY PRESS.
Professor Joseph McBride (1995) interviews Billy Wilder.
Positif editor Michel Ciment writes, “Joseph McBride is one of the best film critics and historians. His Billy Wilder is a crowning achievement.
He casts considerable new light on Wilder’s early life in Vienna and Berlin and reevaluates his artistic status, including his great later work.
The cliché of Wilder as cynic and misanthrope is not to McBride’s taste. Instead, he reveals the complexity of the man and the coherence of his eclectic oeuvre.”

LECTURER DAVID DE ROZAS PREMIERES “THE BLESSINGS OF THE MYSTERY” AT UT AUSTIN VISUAL ARTS CENTER
The Blessings of the Mystery (link below) is a multidisciplinary art exhibition and research based project, made in collaboration with visual artist Carolina Caycedo. This entirely new body of work explores how the Far West was spatially planned and developed since the 1800s, and how this imbrication of settler and indigenous knowledge unfolds into the present. The exhibition centers around The Teaching of the Hands, a single-channel film that recounts the region’s complex histories of colonization, migration, and ecological precarity from the perspective of Juan Mancias, Chairman of the Carrizo Comecrudo Tribe of Texas.
The Blessings of the Mystery is organized by Ballroom Marfa (link below), and lead support has been provided by the VIA Art Fund (link below), and the National Endowment for the Arts.
