Preparing to Welcome Refugees

We have gathered much of what we will need to furnish an apartment for a newly arrived refugee family. Some things still remain to be brought in or purchased. We do have some funds on hand for things that we might need to buy.
Here's what we still need:  At least one more dresser or chest of drawers; used is fine.  Curtains and curtain rods. Lamps, with decent shades. Two simple area rugs. Extension cords in good condition. Cleaning supplies, toiletries, all new and unopened. Lined paper/spiral notebook, pens and pencils, a dictionary. Quilts, blankets or comforters. Light bulbs,  smoke detector batteries, and alarm clock. Clothes hangers; laundry baskets; waste baskets.
Perhaps surprisingly, I have been informed that the expected influx of refugees from Afghanistan is actually complicating things, so we may need to be patient. But we can bear in mind the things that are needed, and give thanks that we have room to store them as they arrive.
Hold These Dates
Every month, with few exceptions, we ask those who are able to gather on the First Saturday, at 10:30 am, to help clean the church
On the Second Saturday, we ask those who can to gather at 1:00 pm, to make sandwiches for the lunches to be served to the homeless the next day at the Garden of Love in Cathedral Park. Neither takes very long, if enough people pitch in to help. Please set these days and times aside each month, if you can, to assist with these important tasks. Thanks!

A Change of Schedule

We continue to pray the Daily Office of
Morning Prayer and Evening Prayer,
online, through the Zoom link posted
below. This is the official daily prayer
of the Church, to the glory of God,
and for the needs of the world, as well
as for those we know. All anyone needs
to join in is a computer, tablet, or smart
phone, and a  copy of the Book of
Common Prayer. Psalms, canticles, and
page numbers are announced at the
beginning. Doesn't take long, either;
less than 20 minutes in the morning,
and less than 15 minutes in the evening.
So here's
the schedule:
Sundays:     Morning Prayer, 7:00 am                       Evening Prayer, 4:00 pm
Tues. - Sat.: Morning Prayer, 7:00 am                        Evening Prayer, 6:30 pm
No online prayer on Mondays, which is
Mother Ellen's day off.

Ministry to Students

The Sunday night suppers are back.
The group is small at the moment,
but with a good chance of growth.
If you enjoy cooking, talk to Mother
Ellen about helping to prepare the
meal. In particular, we need desserts
each week.
Cookies, brownies, anything that's
easy to portion and serve, would be
welcome and much appreciated.
We cannot permit students to serve
themselves at this time, so easy
portioning is really important.
You've been so very good about
providing for coffee hour, and
everyone is glad of that. Just a little
further, please, to provide a sweet
ending to a meal for hungry students.
Thanks!
