OCTOBER 2 - Eckington Day and EP&A Member Raffle! 10 AM - 4 PM
Visit EP&A at Eckington Day, hosted by the Eckington Civic Association (ECA) at Alethia Tanner Park. We will have a table by Eckington Dog Park in the morning and at the main park in the afternoon. Stop by to say hello and learn more about our organization!

Thanks to ECA, all 2021 EP&A members/friends will be entered in a drawing to win one of several graciously donated prizes: (1) one free pet portrait by Abigail DeRoberts, (2) one free dog hike with Happy Hikers, or (3) one free 2-hour dog behavioral consultation with a local trainer. Visit our website to become a member ($60/individual; $100/two adults in a household; $30/senior). Volunteer members in good standing (having already completed at least 6 volunteer hours in 2021) will be included in the raffle. The member drawing will take place following Eckington Day and winners contacted by email.

Join us for an evening of yoga on the grassy meadow, meet neighbors, and unwind! Taught by volunteer yoga instructor and neighbor Holly, this yoga class will be accessible to all levels. Sign-up is required due to Department of Parks and Recreation restrictions on event size. Please register here to attend.

OCTOBER 23, 10 AM - Story Thyme in Tanner Park
Join us for stories and songs on the grassy meadow on Saturday morning. This event is aimed at kids ages 0-7 years old. Sign-up is required due to Department of Parks and Recreation restrictions on event size for health safety. Sign up here. And check out DCPL's book bike while you're in the park for this event!

NOVEMBER 9, 7 PM - EP&A Fall Member Meeting
We invite Friends (and prospective Friends) of EP&A to join our next meeting in November. We'll share park and dog park news, EP&A advocacy efforts, and event plans. We'll also discuss upcoming board elections and opportunities for community members to get involved. Mark your calendars, and keep an eye out for details to follow!

EP&A members have access to most event sign-ups before other community members. Non-members are asked to make a nominal donation to help support our organization. In the event of inclement weather, we will reach out to everyone signed up to reschedule.

Adopt A Block - Eckington Edition

EP&A recently adopted five blocks in Eckington through Clean City DC, making a pledge to help keep these streets cleaner for two years:

1900-2100 blocks of 2nd St NE
1900-2100 blocks of 3rd St NE
200-200 block of V St NE

If you see us patrolling these areas for litter, please say hello and join in our efforts! Keep an eye out for Adopt A Block signage that will be installed in the coming weeks with our organization's name. There’s room to expand our efforts and adopt more blocks! If you’re interested in joining us and adopting your own block or those nearby, please send an email to eckingtonparks@gmail.com, and our Greenways Committee Chair will be in touch. Every little bit helps keep our community safe and beautiful!

Greenways Cleanups and Green-ups

Help keep our community clean this season! Eckington Parks' Greenways Committee and Eckington Civic Association host cleanups twice a month. This month's cleanups will be October 2 and 16, 9 AM - 12 PM. Whether you have 20 minutes or 2 hours, grab a trash bag and walk your block - or head to Tanner Park - to show Eckington some love. Say hello to your neighbors, and tag us in photos on social media (@EckingtonParks) while you clean!

Can't make it out on Saturday? That's okay! Find another time that works for you - because every little bit helps keep Eckington beautiful. Need a trash bag or want to say hello? Check social media and Nextdoor to find out when we'll be at the park handing out supplies! For neighbors on the volunteer path to membership - cleanup hours count toward required volunteer hours! Submit your Volunteer Hours Tracking Form for credit.

Help our community go green this Fall! Our Greenways Committee offers quick tips in each newsletter on how to support your garden and our urban natural world. For the month of October, leave some of those leaves and past-their-prime plants as a winter resource for beneficial insects and birds.
