Hello, everyone!

I hope to be headed to Buckeye, AZ, on Friday to visit Linda. It's been way too long since we have seen each other in person. We're going to stitch and visit and enjoy a 2-person retreat. What could be better than that?!

Steve has come down with a wicked throat infection (not Covid or strep) and we'll find out today (Wednesday) what it is and if he's contagious. If he is, I'll postpone the trip until the danger of germ-sharing is over. Trust me, no one wants what he has, including me.
Last week was all about cooling scarves! My friend, Sarah Meyers, has been making cooling scarves for donation and she thought you might like to make them too. They are a quick, easy, and very useful sewing project!

I added a few tips on rotary cutting as well as showing the results of a cooling bead science experiment. Science is fun :-).

"Time Out" Notions & Links
Today, September 15, at 2:00 CST We are going to start a 4-5 week applique and embroidery project that celebrates your most adorable pet. In my case, that would be Jim (sorry Belle) and Chris and Lorna's dog, Andy.

This week I'll show you how to draw your own pattern (by hand or with technology) and show you how to prepare the pattern to make it easy to trace on your applique fabric. Spoiler alert: I use the 808 spray shown below.

FYI, Time Out is prerecorded this week because I'm taking Steve to the doctor. Lorna will be there answering questions in the comments.

I encourage you to try drawing your own pattern because it's fun — and it really is very easy.

However, if you'd rather use my drawings, click the button below to buy the pattern for Jim (the cat) and Andy (the dog). Please be aware that the written instructions are very minimal. The pattern is there for the line art.

DIY Freezer Paper!

808 Reactivating Adhesive is for patterns, papers, and most battings. Shake well and spray lightly — both of these are important — and spray on paper, fabric, or batting. Make your own temporary fusible projects: any regular paper takes on freezer paper properites, most battings become fusible. Does not gum up needles or scissors. Amazing, right?

I especially like to use it on a pattern that needs to be transferred to fabric for tracing (shown in Time Out). Spray the right side of the pattern, press it to the wrong side of the fabric, use a light box to trace the lines onto the right side of the fabric. The paper stabilizes the fabric while you trace!

Mugs for Piece O' Cake!

Just for us, Rebecca Livingston created these new blue and white (and a little green) mugs. Each is perfectly unique, and just lovely to hold.

My mother found Rebecca at a craft show in Oklahoma two decades ago, and our family has collected and loved these light weight, but strong mugs ever since.

Last year, Rebecca let me share her work with you. These new mugs are especially designed with you (and me!) in mind. They are wonderful! We have a very limited supply and I really don't know when (or if) we will be getting more so order soon :-).
