Did you enjoy your summer? I think I did. It was a beautiful few months of hot hot hot weather (climate change!?) and an incredible feeling of safety that I've missed since... you know. After finishing my first year of grad school, I headed back to the east coast to enjoy seasonal festivities. Just like a "normal" summer, things in the dance world (for me) were relatively quiet, so I don't have toooo much to report. But I'm still sending this silly newsletter out. #SorryNotSorry
The end of July brought Philadelphia Dance Day! Continuing a nearly-annual tradition, I was able to lead an outdoor improvisation workshop and then perform (in a theater!?) a new solo, Yet Another Nostalgic Revival. A combination of spring vaccinations and summer travels also allowed me to continue collaborating with Philadelphia dance artists! It felt so good to be home for three months in what felt like a nearly-"normal" world.
AMM&DCO performed at The Umbrella Dance at the Philadelphia Fermentation Festival and many other works have been programmed on Arts Access TV throughout the past few months.
I went on a retreat with The Naked Stark to an off-season Girl Scout Camp! We found community in camping-adjacent activities, movement workshops, and physical proximity. Katherine Kiefer Stark and I also showed a duet About Time in July!
Built through floundering in a studio, I collaborated with a very pregnant Meredith Stapleton. Our short duet/trio "premiered" on Instagram just a few weeks before she welcomed a new little friend into the world!
Lastly, stb x at filmed a new project. It'll be released one day... once I figure out how to finish editing the video and *not* crash my computer. We'll see!
Now that September is upon us, I'm back in school! I've already participated in my first event, Hancher Illuminated! I split six-and-a-half hours of improvisation into two nights of #dancing under the direction of Stephanie Miracle and Alex Bush. (Photography: Alex Bush)
At least for now, Atelier, my photo-essay-triptych, has finally all been published! Since last summer, I've been exploring my huge collection of sequined garments, and this summer I uploaded the last two chapters: Trunk and its colorful variation, Trunk(Violette).
