President's Preamble
We're back! After a long—almost eleven-month—hiatus, our Club has decided to relaunch Rotarecall, reimagining its purpose: to update our friends, the wider Rotary world, of all things Salisbury City Rotaract since we last spoke!
On the topic of updates, let's start with the new Board! On Friday the 20th of August, we managed to facilitate a belated in-person changeover thanking Daniel Niutta for their service and fellowship of Salisbury City Rotaract in 2020-2021 as our President. Daniel managed to achieve so much during the unpredictability of a global pandemic, with his biggest achievement being the social atmosphere he helped foster in our club.
As a result, we are friends first, but we also happen to Serve to Change Lives. We are passionate about volunteering and giving back to our communities, so, as the 8th President of Salisbury City Rotaract, I have tasked this Club to reengage ourselves on the ground and reestablish our relationships.
The RI theme for 2021-2022 is a reminder of the tasks this global pandemic has left us prepared and excited to undertake and delve back into. In its spirit, our changeover also served as our launch for this year's STEPtember fundraising drive. Our team is again stepping up for those with cerebral palsy and participating in STEPtember. Our challenge is to walk the equivalent of 10,000 steps every day for every day of September.
On top of my passion for STEPtember as our platform to reengage with our communities, our Reasons for Gratitude campaign eloquently expresses the Club's values and priorities. I hope you find its messages heartwarming and invite you to embrace the campaign as an opportunity for healthy introspection.
We are also showcasing some recent highlights since we last spoke, followed by an invite to our next meeting.

During our changeover, we formally announced how our change team is stepping up for those with cerebral palsy and participating in STEPtember. Our challenge is to walk the equivalent of 10,000 steps every day for every day of September with the goal of raising $5,000, which is enough for a manual unmodified wheelchair.
Thank you to everyone who has already donated or has got in contact and agreed to host a collection tin. Further, we would like to express our deepest gratitude for the pledges that have already been made by our Rotary partners and friends, including a $1,000 pledge made by the Rotary Club of Salisbury during the Changeover, which was met with tears of joy on the night!

In times like these, where we live in uncertainty and with anxious feelings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is important to reflect and remember the reasons we all have to be grateful for.
Every Wednesday night at 8:30 pm over on our social media, we have been spotlighting members and what they are grateful for in the hope to create a more mindful society with an attitude of gratitude.

2021 Barossa Airshow Volunteering
Members Ruby, Damien, Chris, and Joshua (and Hugh Manibearian, not pictured) came over to help out the Barossa Valley Rotary Club in their new project of hosting the 2021 Barossa Airshow back in April!

Northern Youth Week Festival Stall
As part of the City of Salisbury's Northern Youth Week Festival, our club sold popcorn and fairy floss carnival treats, raising funds for our service alongside promoting Rotaract and our fellowship to other young people.

Area 6 Intercity Networking and Learning Dinner
Our club hosted the Rotary District 9510 Area 6 Clubs for an evening that sought to start a dialogue around answering "How can Rotary lead equity and inclusion in our communities?".
Professor Irene Watson (Pro-vice Chancellor for Aboriginal Strategy and Leadership at the University of South Australia) spoke about the enduring and ongoing impact of systematic racism on First Nations people. She connected Aboriginal Laws Philosophy (Dreaming, People, Spirit) to the displacement of these people after the invasion and colonisation of their land. She specifically spoke on Australia being regarded as Terra Nullius, which was illegally used to supposedly legitimise the dispossession of First Nations people.
She acknowledged Rotary as an agent for change and for its contributions to improving the lives of First Nations people but urged Rotary to take on a leadership position to create space for First Nations voices in our clubs and communities. We are called to be allies to those who need our support.
Conversations were then had by members of our Rotary community who experience bias; be it racism or prejudice about disability, gender, sexuality, or religion—acknowledging how all people experience bias often.
Additionally, we raised $170 towards EndTrachoma toiletry kits. We thank and deeply appreciate Professor Watson, AG Rick Henke, and DGE Jeff Neale for their input and dialogue on this important theme.

Report back from our 2020-21 RYLA Awardee, Madison Ward
Madison spoke to our club about the fun she had, the friends they made, and the learnings that occurred while on RYLA that will support her into the future. She told us about how RYLA had provided her with a renewed sense of hope, confidence, and clarity with her personal values.

Rotary Wine and Cheese Fundraiser
In May, our members attended the Rotary Club of Salisbury's Wine and Cheese Fundraiser.
The fundraiser helped support the Goodall Youth Scholarship Fund, which helps young people transitioning from primary school to high school thrive through subsidising costs and supporting their education.

Changeover Visits
Throughout this changeover period, we have been very busy travelling to both our regular and new friends in the Rotary family. Thank you for having us during this special time for your clubs, and thank you to all clubs who are allowing us a platform to speak to STEPtember and who have also been pledging financial support.
We are looking forward to speaking on STEPtember at more clubs soon, such as Barossa Valley Rotary!

Wear it Purple Day
Last week, we decided to Wear it Purple to help reinforce our intent to foster a supportive, safe, empowering, and inclusive environment in our club for queer young people, workshopping a presentation about the day.
