Palisades in Michigan will close permanently in May of 2022.

It provides power for 800,000 Michigan homes and employees 600 people. About 260 people will stay on for decommissioning, which is estimated to cost around $644 million.

However, it's not all bad news in the nuclear sector today.

In another report, residents of a Wyoming town were polled about their opinion on building the Natrium reactor there, which is in development by TerraPower.

The results showed overwhelming support by local residents (over 75 percent) for building the reactor. The main reasons given?

Economic growth and job opportunities. 

This is an optimistic sign for the future of reactor construction.
