As we enter the second half of 2021, we are faced with a “dual-track” world. One where the pandemic is receding due to the success of vaccinations and the other not.
Testament to this was the brutal second COVID wave that India was plunged into last quarter. India Literacy Project (ILP) faithful - donors, volunteers and it’s wonderful team on the ground galvanized into action with extraordinary relief efforts and fundraising during this time. Hats off to the entire team for the incredible amount of work they have put in!
This edition of the newsletter is devoted to our relief efforts and our forward looking “build-back” plans that are taking shape. We wish you all a safe and healthy 2nd half!

Wave 2 COVID Relief
As COVID dealt its lethal hand across India, ILP organized to coordinate relief work in the Urban and Rural areas we serve in. From supporting Primary and Community health centers in rural Andhra, Telangana, Karnataka, Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand and Tamil Nadu with basic medical supplies to helping run COVID care centers in Urban areas read more about our efforts here.
COVID Heroes
Team members from ILP worked round the clock to arrange medical assistance for COVID patients. This ran the gamut from obtaining scarce resources like oxygen, medicines, hospital beds to home care for children/elderly. Read about their efforts here
Covid Build Back – An Initiative to Help Resume Normalcy!
ILP is putting in place community-based learning initiatives through village volunteers. This is being done to address the massive learning loss, both in terms of knowledge levels and social interactions that children are experiencing at this time. Learn more here.
Recognition - One more feather in ILP’s Hat
ILP was chosen as one of the top 10 NGOs working in Education by HCL Foundation in Feb 2021.
ILP was a semi finalist in the HCL Foundation Grant Edition VI and was chosen from over 1900 NGOs evaluated on multiple diligence criteria in organizational governance, program innovativeness, program impact and sustainability. This is a huge recognition for the work ILP is doing from HCL Foundation, a known leader in the development sector in India.
