"Never let the things you cannot do prevent you from doing the things you can do"  Coach John Wooden

Our Next Meeting September 14th
The Support Group Meeting with Jay Stratoudakis scheduled for Tuesday, September 7 at 7:00pm
is cancelled in support of our care partners who observe Rosh Hashanah and go to temple.
(See everyone on October 5.)

Tuesday, September 14th at 7pm Sharon Krischer, a.k.a. Twitchy Woman, will be speaking to our Shakers Anonymous support group about her journey with Parkinson’s Disease and lessons she has learned.

Sharon Krischer was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in October, 2009, after several years of experiencing odd symptoms.  Ever since she has read everything she could find on Parkinson’s with the goal of finding a way to move on – literally – and not be defeated by the disease.
A busy person prior to her diagnosis, she continues to find ways to fit more into her days than most people.  Daily exercise is a key component for her to live successfully with PD.  She continues to play tennis, badly, go to yoga and boxing classes, travel around the world and more (obviously amended due to COVID19).  In addition, Sharon is often asked by friends to speak to a relative/friend/co-worker who has been newly diagnosed with Parkinson’s.  As a result, in 2015 she started her blog  “Twitchy Woman’s Adventures with Parkinson’s” to encourage the exchange of ideas and solutions with others whose lives have been affected.
When COVID19 hit in March, 2020, Twitchy Woman, like Shakers Anonymous, turned to Zoom to bring the PD community together.  Sunday Mornings with Twitchy Woman is a virtual social, educational, and support group for women with PD that has been meeting every other Sunday morning since March, 2020. Attendance skyrocketed from 8 women at the first virtual meeting to over 350 worldwide who have participated in the past 18 months.

Sharon serves on the Parkinson’s Foundation California Chapter Advisory Board and among other things, was the official blogger for the 2019 World Parkinson Congress in Kyoto.
She lives in Beverly Hills, California, with her very supportive husband, Joel. They have three daughters and four grandchildren.

Be sure to tune in on Tuesday, September 14th at 7pm to hear Twitchy Woman’s story!

October 12th Brian Kopell, MD a Neurosurgeon from Mt Sinai Hospital and his Nurse Practitioner, Meredith Spadaccia will be speaking to us about their new Brain Wellness program.

PARKINSON’S NEWLY DIAGNOSED RESOURCES

“You have Parkinson’s.” An estimated 60,000 people in the US hear these three words each year, setting them on a journey that, for so many, is filled with more questions than answers, especially in the beginning. But after 16 years of working to help people live well with Parkinson’s, we know these three words don’t have to mean giving up on the kind of life you imagined for yourself or your family. We also know that the longer it takes for someone to find the resources they need to live well, the longer their Parkinson’s will present challenges that affect their quality of life in negative ways. To help you get what you need, here is a collection of our most popular and helpful Parkinson’s resources for people who have been newly diagnosed. Read more...
