Land acknowledgement

In the district’s sustained work to build a culture of inclusive belonging for students, teachers, staff and the community, we join local, state, national and international efforts to acknowledge Native land.

According to the U.S. Department of Arts and Culture, “In countries such as Canada, New Zealand and Australia, it is commonplace, even policy, to open events and gatherings by acknowledging the traditional Indigenous inhabitants of that land.” Our Equity & Access Department encourages opening school and district events with this impactful Native land acknowledgment:

“We respectfully acknowledge that we gather today on the traditional lands of the Coast Salish Peoples, who have lived in the Salish Sea basin, the San Juan Islands, and the North Cascades watershed since time immemorial. You are on Coast Salish Tribal Land.”

Meals Free 2021-22 School Year
Along with returning to 100% in-person this fall, we are also able to continue serving FREE meals to all children until June 30, 2022! Free meals are available this school year for all on-site students! The meal program is federally funded, and meal costs are reimbursed by the USDA. To find out the menu for breakfast and lunch at your student’s school, please visit the food and nutrition website on everettsd.org. Families who qualify for Free and Reduced Meals should still complete an annual application form. Approved free and reduced applications help fund other programs and can also help waive other fees for your family. Applications are available online or at your student’s school.

Open Council Positions
We are still seeking interested volunteers to fill the following Council positions:
  • Reflections Co-Chair: To team with Georgina Johns
  • Member-At-Large (South/2nd Region): Basically, a local PTA leader from a school within the southern-central and south areas of the district
  • Region 7 Representative: Role is the liaison between our Council and the Region 7 Director
  • Recognition/Award Celebration (Ad Hoc Committee Chairs): Due to the pandemic, our Council was not able to host our Annual Awards Celebration event during the past two years. However, we are very enthusiastic about the potential of having an in-person event again next May (2022). We are seeking 1-2 individuals to volunteer for this very important Council role, as planning needs to start in Autumn. Do you like to plan parties or know a PTA member who does? Let us know about it!
Please contact everettptsacouncil@gmail.com with questions.
