Online Tai Chi Lessons: Monthly Bulletin #48 (September 2021)
"Locked Down" with Tai Chi Friends All Over the World
Hello <<First Name>>,

Welcome to this month’s bulletin for Online Tai Chi Lessons!

Here in Sydney, we have reached over two months of lockdown. This reminds me of the ‘lockdown’ in my childhood.

At 10 months old I was left in China with my grandmother and my aunt. The Communist government put my grandmother in the “landlord’ category, and they evicted us and put us in a small storage room. My grandmother was a kind old lady who never hurt anyone. My grandfather left her a tiny piece of land and a house. The local village people divided the house and the land. It is hard to imagine how low we were in social status. Mao often said that landlords are like running rats in the street, that everyone should kill them. So young people would come to beat my poor old grandma, while kids in school would also beat me up. I cried and told her about the beatings. I still remember the pain in her eyes as she told me stay at home. There we were, grandmother, aunt, cousin and I in a tiny storage room; shivering in fear when people knocked on our door. We endured because there was so much love.

When my mind goes that far back, I realize I have two choices: to dwell on those horrible times, or to see the present situation as it really is. Our freedom is not being infringed; we are social distancing to help stop the spread of COVID-19 for the safety of the community. It is our responsibility. We are fortunate to live in a free country. There is freedom and safety for all, and lots of responsible and nice people around us. We have incredible advanced medical science to help us get out of this pandemic.
Monthly Video Bulletin #48 (September 2021) | Global Community
I am fortunate to have space to practice my tai chi every day and still ride my bike at a nearby park. The most comforting thing is that we have friends all over the world. We keep in touch and talk and practice tai chi together via Zoom software.

Starting last month, I started a monthly Tai Chi for Health Instructors Forum to share tai chi and friendship, and to improve our knowledge of tai chi so that we can empower more people to improve health and wellness. This month we focused on 'Mindfulness and Tai Chi' - great training for this current lockdown! I can use this time to think about my direction in life. At 73 years, I am keen to work as hard as possible to make our world a little nicer with my knowledge and experience and with help from my friends.

I have added the Highlights from "Mindfulness and Tai Chi" Instructors Forum (September 2021) video in Folder 13: Webinar Highlights in the Global Community (18-minute video). I am sure you will enjoy listening to Drs Marlena Fiol and Ed O’Connor.
Highlights from the September 2021 TCHI Instructors Forum - "Mindfulness and Tai Chi" (18 minutes)
Our mission in these challenging times is to share tai chi to improve health and immunity.

I have been conducting a series of virtual tai chi workshops since last year; you can find the full recordings on the Online Tai Chi Workshops website. These workshops include Exploring the Depth of Tai Chi for Rehabilitation, Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention, Tai Chi for Energy, Tai Chi for Beginners, Spiral Force, The 24 Forms, Sun Style 73 Forms, The Combined 42 Forms, Yang Style 32 Sword Forms, Qigong for Health and many webinars.

The latest release on the same website will be the full recording of the "Exploring the Depth of Tai Chi for Health Programs" Webinar (1 hour). Please see the special offer at the bottom of this email. For those who have access to the growing library of videos of the Global Community, you can find the Highlights video in Folder 13: Webinar Highlights (20 minutes).

To work alongside Online Tai Chi Lessons, I am working on regular virtual tai chi classes. If you have been practising with my online lessons, you would find having an instructor can help you develop your tai chi, like coming to an in-person class once or twice a week and keeping you in regular practice (plus you get to meet other tai chi friends). Please write to me if you are interested.

Remember, if there is anything our team and I can do to make your experience more enjoyable, feel free to let me know by emailing onlinelessons@taichiproductions.com

One last piece of great news before I go, the National Council On Ageing, a USA governmental body, has published my article, “The Health Benefits of Tai Chi and How to Start”. You can read it at their website: www.ncoa.org/article/the-health-benefits-of-tai-chi-and-how-to-get-started

Please pass it on to your friends!

Enjoy your practice, stay well and see you next month.

Paul Lam, MD

This movement now has a name. Thank you Dr Lam for a wonderful lesson. It has given me much more awareness."
