The HortNZ Update 13 is as follows...

The Government has announced that from 11.59pm on Thursday 9 September (yet to be confirmed, however), essential workers crossing the Auckland borders will need to have proof of a Covid test, taken within the last seven days.

However, no standdown period will apply while workers await the test results.  Also, testing will be at no cost to the employer or employee.

In making this announcement, the Government said that it is ‘working with employers’.  However, at this point, we do not have any further information and the Ministry for Primary Industries will update us tomorrow morning.

We understand this announcement will have created more uncertainty for affected growers.  We will provide you with further instructions as soon as we can, about where you can obtain these tests, what form they will be in, and the on-going testing requirements.

We will update you once we get more information but in the interim, please keep an eye on the Government’s main Covid website.

Change in Alert Level for the rest of New Zealand

The Government also announced that from 11.59pm on Tuesday 7 September, all of New Zealand – except for Auckland – will drop to ‘Delta’ Alert Level 2, noting that this is a different Alert Level 2 to the previous one.  Please go here for more information.

The Government will make a decision about Auckland on Monday 13 September, as previously indicated.

Requirement for businesses to ensure scanning/record keeping

At midnight on Tuesday 7 September, it will become compulsory for public-facing businesses to have a QR scanning or other record-keeping system for the use of every person entering their premises.

Information regarding this requirement is here.
