Christian Formation
The Fall Worship and Formation Brochure, detailing all of the fall events can be found at this link.

Children’s Formation
There will be no Children’s Chapel on September 12.   On September 19, our outdoor Children’s Chapel will move to a new time – from 10:00 to 10:15 AM.  Masks (even for those fully vaccinated) and a grown-up (to accompany each household’s kids) are.  Virtual Children’s Chapel services will continue to be posted at cotcchildandfam.org each Sunday at 7:00 AM.  Our lessons in both in-person and virtual Children’s Chapel will follow the Revised Common Lectionary and companion faith-at-home supplies will be available for pick-up at the Children’s Chapel service and throughout the week.  You can register for faith-at-home materials here.

Adult Formation
Sunday, September 12, 5:00 p.m.  | CrossTies Second Sundays
CrossTies, The Chapel of the Cross's ministry for parishioners in their 20s and 30s, is coming together for its first gathering of the 2021-2022 academic year on Sunday, September 12. We will meet promptly after the 4 p.m. service by the tower door at the back of the church and will walk down Franklin Street for dinner and fellowship. We are especially excited to welcome any new folks hoping to find a 20s/30s community at COTC! No RSVP required, but please email Eliza Brinkley (ebrinkley264@gmail.com) if you have any questions.

Tuesday, September 14, 10:00 a.m.  | Old Testament Discussion Group Begins
The worship services of the Episcopal Church frequently include passages from the Hebrew Bible (the Old Testament).  Often times, these readings seem obscure and we wonder what it has to do with Jesus and the Good News.  That said, it is clear that Jesus was Jewish and his teachings were in fact based on the Hebrew Bible as he knew it.  Perhaps, if we understood the Hebrew Bible more completely, we might be able to better understand the life and ministry of Jesus.

The discussion group is scheduled to start at 10 am on Tuesday September 14th. If you are interested in knowing more about this discussion group, please contact Hugh Tilson or Boykin Bell.  To register, click here and cursor to the bottom of the page.

Friday, September 17, 9:00 -10:00 a.m.| Bible Study with Father Noah
A good, old-fashioned Bible Study with Fr. Noah for one hour, in-person, Fridays 9am-10am beginning Friday, September 17th. We'll read passages from scripture and talk about them. No pre-work required. Just bring your Bible (preferred translation: New Revised Standard Version). This fall we'll be spending some time with the epistles of the New Testament, starting with Ephesians. An email to Fr. Noah indicating your general interest is appreciated but not necessary.

Faith in Action

Caring for God’s Creation
The intergovernmental panel on climate change (IPCC) provides policy makers with scientific assessments on climate change. They recently released a report that has been called a “code red for humanity.”  The report outlines five possible futures, ranging from best to worst case scenario depending on how quickly we act.  The takeaway? Climate change is already with us, and we are running out of time.  There is still a chance to avoid the worst effects of climate change, but we must act now.

Read about ways you can manage your own personal waste stream in the Creation Care Committee's September Newsletter, and consider how you can do your part to care for God's creation.

The sessions will be held the third Wednesday of the month, 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. We will be meeting in-person at the church and will abide by church safety protocols, including the requirement to mask while inside all church buildings.

During this time we explore both an inward journey of personal transformation and an outward journey of sacred service. It is a journey from head to heart and one that the young adults from Johnson Service Corps invite you to take along with them this fall.We will meet Friday mornings from 10:00 AM to noon beginning September 10 and continuing through October 29.

Nancy Spencer and former JSC Program Director Susan Gladin will be facilitating the course for us again. We'd love to have you join us and get to know the incredible young adults serving with us this year!
