A message from OK County Democratic Party Chair, Robbie White

These have been some difficult weeks in our country. With laws designed for cruelty and division passed in Oklahoma and neighboring states, it is easy to allow despair to take over. I must admit that I skipped over despair and went straight to anger over the past few days. I am angry and motivated.
I have been fighting for abortion rights for more than thirty years. Many of you have been in this fight much longer. I am not going back. Ever. I will fight for our rights.

The 2022 Midterms will determine the future of this country. Will the United States move ahead as a democracy or become a failed experiment crumbling into divisive authorianism? It is up to us to motivate voters to move toward more fair and inclusive elections and elect more Democrats! Republicans have shown that they are focused on taking away the rights of Americans to vote.

We can make a difference here in Oklahoma County by working in our precincts and neighborhoods. I will hold a precinct leader meeting for all precinct officers and committee members in Ok County on Sept 30 via zoom. Click for info!

Priority: VOTER REGISTRATION
This week, Beto O'Rourke encouraged Democrats in Texas to register more voters to make a difference in 2022. We can take that advice to heart here in Oklahoma, too. But signing up Oklahomans to vote is only the first step. We must keep engaging until more Oklahomans cast their votes! With one of the lowest voter turnouts in the nation, we need active voters, not more folks who sit on the sidelines.

Priority: RECRUIT CANDIDATES

I will host the first in a series of Meet and Greet for Potential Candidates on Sept 23 at 7:00 pm. (info on our website calendar and FB event)

If you have ever thought about running for office, this event is for you!

If you have a friend who is interested in running for office, bring them!

We will hear from former candidates, party officers, and others.

The meeting will give a potential candidate an idea of:

  • How does running for office affect a candidate’s personal life?

  • How much money to raise?

  • How many doors to knock?

  • Should I hire a consultant?

  • What about the Democratic Party?

And more!

The event will be outdoors and distanced as much as possible to stay safely within covid precautions. Wearing a mask is a good idea!
