Greetings from Canada!
Batts Abroad - August 2021
We spent the month of August moving, unpacking, and settling into a new apartment.
But as of Wednesday, September 1st, our French classes are back in session! Allen is taking the Advanced French class this fall and I am doing the Integration program (meaning I have Bible classes in the morning and French classes in the afternoon). We love having more opportunities to practice here on campus and in the community.

The kids spend their mornings in the garderie (nursery) while we have class and we're homeschooling Ruth for kindergarten, too. The kids are slowly picking up some French and we're excited to see them grow in language this year. They also love finding new places to play on campus (the sand volleyball court and playground have been favorites so far) with their new friends here!

Ministry-wise, we've hosted several get-togethers for the other language school students here on campus. Most students, if not all, are away from home and their families, so developing community is a priority. This Saturday, September 11th, we're starting a fall Bible study with language school students.

Here's a short newsletter video, if you'd like to see more information:

A Behind-the-Scenes Glimpse at Our Life:

1. We've had our share of language blunders already. For example, Allen accidentally bought three reusable grocery bags the other day... and then didn't use them when bagging his purchases. On the other hand, we've successfully ordered coffee in French, so surely we're ahead?

2. We found a French church we enjoy here in Sherbrooke. And we found out the hard way that we don't love sitting with our kids, front and center. I will be helping in the 4- and 5-year-old's class when it starts back up so I can translate for Ruth and Clara.

3. We have not had poutine yet, but I did learn how to cook and process a whole chicken. It's much cheaper to buy chicken that way and we figure it's good practice for Togo, so why not?

4. Allen and I enjoy Coffee Porch Time on our little deck every morning, and especially the mornings when Hudson wakes up at 4:00am ready to play.

More behind-the-scenes looks at life and ministry are available on our blog, which is updated several times a week!

Ruth loves kindergarten and playing outside! She lovingly named our backyard area "The Meadow" and adventures out there as often as we let her.

Clara is excited to play in the garderie every day and enjoys taking care of all her "pets" - the little stuffed animals that have made multiple moves in her suitcase.

Hudson is such a ham and brings so much light to our family. He never wants to be left behind and always wants to bring his cars, trucks, or trains on our adventures.

Allen and I are just so thankful for this season God has given us. We wouldn't be here without His goodness in our lives and your faithful prayers and gifts to our family.
Thank you for praying for our family!
