Safe After Church Fellowship

My thanks to Sue, Dorothy and helpers for providing and serving drinks and cake in the church hall last Sunday.  If you can help one Sunday please let them know.
To keep us safe they are wearing masks and gloves while serving.
WE ASK YOU to keep them and each other safe.
1  Please use a hand sanitiser as you enter the hall.
2 Please wear your face mask until you have collected your refreshments.
3  Please use the outdoor space if the weather is suitable.
4  Please maintain physical distance from each other in the hall.
5  Please remove masks for eating and drinking.
We will keep doors and windows open and ensure the hall is safe to use so that we can all feel safe and enjoy fellowship together. Thankyou.

Everybody Welcome

IS NOT A TRAINING COURSE FOR THE SIDESPERSONS

It is for the whole church - including you.

Everybody is invited to come to a series of 4 meetings starting on 18th September to explore what a welcoming church looks like, and how we at St. Mary's can be the best welcoming church ever.

AIM of the Everybody Welcome Course

The aim of this training session is to review the whole way the church contacts its community. It should help members - by which we mean regular attenders, whether or not they are on the electoral roll or other members' list - to see the role and purpose of the different aspects of church life more clearly, and to work out how their church can make itself more visible and attractive to outsiders. The session should help each member of the congregation review and enhance their own part in the church's ministry of reaching out to the wider community.
There are motives for reaching out to the wider community other than that of providing pathways for people to join the church - we all share the same kingdom imperative to love our neighbours in need however they respond. But we should also have confidence in the power of the gospel and the love of the Church to attract at least some of our contacts to journey on into the community of Jesus Christ.

The sessions lasting 1.5 hours will be on Saturday afternoons in and around our church.

Please sign up on the lists in church so we can have enough booklets available before the course starts and then come to as many meetings as possible.
If you could make an evening meeting on Monday or Tuesday or Wednesday rather than the Saturday ones please let Marcus or Simon know and we will try and arrange this.
PLEASE COLLECT YOUR BOOKLET THIS SUNDAY FROM MARCUS OR SIMON

Trust130 continues into 2021 to help and
support churches

Ecclesiastical is really pleased to be extending the offer to run throughout 2021. Supporting your church is easy. Simply take out a home insurance policy(1) with Ecclesiastical and they will donate £130 to the church of your choice. And, of course, the more people who take out home insurance policies, the more funds that are raised. So even if you’ve got a really ambitious goal – like raising funds for a new church roof – there’s nothing to stop you.

If you would like a home insurance quote or more information, simply call 0800 7830 130 and quote AVNEWS21.

Mens' and Ladies' Breakfast

September will see the start of the Ladies' and Mens' breakfasts again at the Harvester. It will be a bit different in that everything will be brought to the table by waiting staff. There will probably not be the usual wide choice of cereal, yogurt, and fruit but pretty much everything else will be the same.

A cooked breakfast will be £5.99 and continental £4.49.

‘Men’s Breakfast is back! Same place same time. 9am for 9.15am on Saturday 11th September at The Harvester, 1 Riverfield Drive. Look forward to seeing you for food and chat and some ‘words of wisdom’.

Please sign up on the sheet on the table or see or ring/text Michael Barker on 07906 505287.’

Ladies' Breakfast  9am Saturday 18th September.  Please let Chris Graham know if you are coming or sign up in church.

Harvest Lunch – Saturday 25th September 2021

Do come to the Harvest Lunch which will be held in the Church Hall on the above date at 1.00pm.  The cost of the meal will be £6.00 for adults and £3.00 for children (12 years and under) and all profits will be given to the Bishop’s Harvest Appeal which this year is ‘Water is Life’.  Please sign the list on the table if you would like to come.  Tickets are available from Dorothy Kirby (tel. 266425) or Sue Barker. (306139)
Life in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is tough. With a history of civil war, widespread poverty and a cycle of conflict and displacement, communities struggle every day. Also, more than 70 per cent of the DRC population use unsafe drinking water and so daily encounter the devastatingly high risk of cholera, a preventable disease. The Bishop of St Albans’ Harvest Appeal 2021, Water is Life, will bring clean water to many more communities in the DRC, bringing with it transformation to daily lives and hope for the future.
Please use envelopes distributed or put your donation in an envelope marked Harvest and place in the offertory plate in church.
