Dear PVUMC Family,

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for these who persecute you” (Matthew 5: 43-44).

"Love my enemies? How can I love my enemies while it is hard to love my neighbor even?” This was my thought when I read it when I was younger. It seemed like a hard teaching. No, honestly, it’s not hard, it seems impossible. Then, how? When we read this impractical and revolutionary command from Jesus, we can also find that Jesus also gives us a most practical path to love them. Start here: pray for them. Prayer is more than talking. It’s listening. Yes, in prayer we give our burdens to Jesus. But as we listen in prayers, he starts to give his burdens to us. He will begin to show us how he sees that enemy of ours- and will begin to pull back the curtain on our own motives and attitudes. Prayer for our enemies cultivates holy love for our enemies. Which actually destroys our enemies. Because once we begin to pray for them, and in turn love them, they can no longer be our enemies. So, in prayer, nothing is impossible, we can even love our enemies.

This coming Sunday, Sep 12th, we will have a Kick-Off Sunday. The PVUMC Choir and Bell Choir will make special songs for the Lord, and our youth will resume our youth activities. Although we are still in a global pandemic, wisely we will need to find a way to live “with" Corona virus, not “after" Corona virus. Thus, all our church activities will follow the recommendation of our PRG (Post-Covid Re-Entry Group) team for our safety and health. I would like to encourage you to come to our church for Sunday Service. We will continue to provide a live-streaming worship service for those who will join our Sunday service online.

I will open a new Bible Study, “The Gospel of John” for 12 weeks from next Tuesday at 7pm. I will open this class as an in-person class as well as an online class (Zoom). Please contact me if you are wiling to join this bible study.

I really appreciate your offering to the Lord through our church. Because of your offering, PVUMC can continue the mission and ministry of God. You can use our online offering linked below, send the church your check, or you can bring your offering to the church on Sunday. Offering is a way to express our gratitude to God for His love, grace, and salvation.

Below are links and information of PVUMC’s ministry for this week.

Live-Streaming Sunday Service- Sunday 11AM

Congregational Prayer Meeting- Wednesday 7PM
UMM Men’s Breakfast- Fellowship Hall, Saturday 8AM

It was an impossible command to love our enemies, but now it has become possible to love them through our prayers, because we will learn God’s love for them by listening to God in our prayers.

Love in Christ,
Eugene
