City of Niagara Falls receives funding
from CN EcoConnexions From the Ground Up program
Grant to support local planting project at Millennium Trail - Niagara Falls Lions Legacy Pathway

NIAGARA FALLS, ON - Today, CN (TSX: CNR) (NYSE: CNI) and Tree Canada, Canada’s leading national tree-planting charity, announced the names of the 26 communities that are being awarded community tree planting grants. These grants are a part of the CN EcoConnexions – From the Ground Up initiative that invests more than a half a million dollars in community greening projects across Canada.  The City of Niagara Falls is pleased to have been selected to be one of this year’s participants.

With the $25,000 CN grant, the City of Niagara Falls will continue to expand the urban canopy by planting and caring for 170 new, native species trees. Most of the trees to be planted are flowering types, which will add significant beauty and support pollinators in the spring and fall.  Land Care Niagara has donated 30 of the trees at cost in support of this urban environmental initiative.

Thanks to CN’s environmental leadership, the CN EcoConnexions From the Ground Up initiative has been greening communities since 2012 with sustainable, environmentally responsible tree-planting projects. Through its various tree planting programs, including From the Ground Up, CN has planted more than 2 million trees across Canada.

The City of Niagara Falls will work closely with Tree Canada experts to plan the tree planting project.  A small ceremony to commemorate the CN grant and new trees will take place at the Millennium Trail, Niagara Falls Lions Legacy Pathway on September 24 near the end of the event which runs from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. For more information on greening/urban forest/park beautification initiatives, please visit
