Dear SLSC Community,
Alas, another successful season has come to an end. This one feels especially successful, given that when we started planning last winter, we weren't sure we could even have a season at all.
The Board pressed on with all the planning last winter. We worked through all the wrinkles of what might happen and what could happen....and in the end we had an uninterrupted program....complete with new boats and the same old sailers (and some new ones too!).
Thank you to everyone whose efforts led to the success this summer. It did truly take a village to make it all happen.
There are many people to thank for this year, but firstly, I would like to thank the Wroe family, once again for the use of their property. This was critical to our ability to adhere to the required Covic protocols.
Secondly, a big thank you also to the Laser Fleet: Storey Holt, Chris Holt, the Aspinwalls, Madge Barr, the Kidds, Hugh DesBrisay and Nick Roberts, who all loaned their personal Lasers to SLSC for the summer. These boats not only helped with Covid protocols, but they also helped our senior sailors learn new single-handed sailing skills.
By the way, if you have an old Laser you are no longer using, please consider donating it to the club (a tax receipt will be provided). We would like to provide this opportunity to our sailors in the future.
Thirdly, our team of instructors deserve massive thanks. They kept the program safe, ensured the kids still had fun while learning in their cohort, handled all the changing number of registrations, and worked extra hours so that we could run both a morning and afternoon program so that more kids could come to the club in July.
Also, thank you to the sailors and their parents/guardians who followed the required Covid protocols, all of which helped to ensure that we had no outbreaks during the summer.
And finally, thank you to the team of Directors who put in countless hours to make sure the program was the success that it was.
Next year we can do this all over again, except this time with more Fun Days, Movie Nights and maybe even Dances too.
Very best,
Richard Roberts
